A psalm. A song. For the dedication of the temple. Of David. I will exalt you, LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.1A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the house of David. I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.2O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
You, LORD, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.3O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.
Sing the praises of the LORD, you his faithful people; praise his holy name.4Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.5For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
When I felt secure, I said, "I will never be shaken."6And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.
LORD, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed.7LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.
To you, LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy:8I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.
"What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?9What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
Hear, LORD, and be merciful to me; LORD, be my help."10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.
You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,11Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. LORD my God, I will praise you forever.12To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
