| 1Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, | 1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. |
| 2for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. | 2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. |
| 3While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. | 3While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. |
| 4But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. | 4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; |
| 5You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. | 5for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; |
| 6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. | 6so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. |

| 8But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. | 8But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. |

| 14And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. | 14We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. |
| 15Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. | 15See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. |
