| 1As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, | 1And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, |
| 2in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. | 2in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. |
| 3All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. | 3Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. |

| 12remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. | 12remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. |
| 13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. | 13But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. |
| 14For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, | 14For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, |
| 15by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, | 15by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, |
| 16and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. | 16and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. |

| 21In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. | 21in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, |
