New International VersionNET Bible
Then the man brought me to the gate facing east,1Then he brought me to the gate that faced toward the east.
and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters, and the land was radiant with his glory.2I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east; the sound was like that of rushing water; and the earth radiated his glory.
The vision I saw was like the vision I had seen when he came to destroy the city and like the visions I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown.3It was like the vision I saw when he came to destroy the city, and the vision I saw by the Kebar River. I threw myself face down.
The glory of the LORD entered the temple through the gate facing east.4The glory of the LORD came into the temple by way of the gate that faces east.
Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.5Then a wind lifted me up and brought me to the inner court; I watched the glory of the LORD filling the temple.
While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from inside the temple.6I heard someone speaking to me from the temple, while the man was standing beside me.
He said: "Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet. This is where I will live among the Israelites forever. The people of Israel will never again defile my holy name--neither they nor their kings--by their prostitution and the funeral offerings for their kings at their death.7He said to me: "Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet, where I will live among the people of Israel forever. The house of Israel will no longer profane my holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their spiritual prostitution or by the pillars of their kings set up when they die.
When they placed their threshold next to my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them, they defiled my holy name by their detestable practices. So I destroyed them in my anger.8When they placed their threshold by my threshold and their doorpost by my doorpost, with only the wall between me and them, they profaned my holy name by the abominable deeds they committed. So I consumed them in my anger.
Now let them put away from me their prostitution and the funeral offerings for their kings, and I will live among them forever.9Now they must put away their spiritual prostitution and the pillars of their kings far from me, and then I will live among them forever.
"Son of man, describe the temple to the people of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their sins. Let them consider its perfection,10"As for you, son of man, describe the temple to the house of Israel, so that they will be ashamed of their sins and measure the pattern.
and if they are ashamed of all they have done, make known to them the design of the temple--its arrangement, its exits and entrances--its whole design and all its regulations and laws. Write these down before them so that they may be faithful to its design and follow all its regulations.11When they are ashamed of all that they have done, make known to them the design of the temple, its pattern, its exits and entrances, and its whole design--all its statutes, its entire design, and all its laws; write it all down in their sight, so that they may observe its entire design and all its statutes and do them.
"This is the law of the temple: All the surrounding area on top of the mountain will be most holy. Such is the law of the temple.12"This is the law of the temple: The entire area on top of the mountain all around will be most holy. Indeed, this is the law of the temple.
"These are the measurements of the altar in long cubits, that cubit being a cubit and a handbreadth: Its gutter is a cubit deep and a cubit wide, with a rim of one span around the edge. And this is the height of the altar:13"And these are the measurements of the altar: Its base is 1 3/4 feet high, and 1 3/4 feet wide, and its border nine inches on its edge. This is to be the height of the altar.
From the gutter on the ground up to the lower ledge that goes around the altar it is two cubits high, and the ledge is a cubit wide. From this lower ledge to the upper ledge that goes around the altar it is four cubits high, and that ledge is also a cubit wide.14From the base of the ground to the lower edge is 3 1/2 feet, and the width 1 3/4 feet; and from the smaller ledge to the larger edge, 7 feet, and the width 1 3/4 feet;
Above that, the altar hearth is four cubits high, and four horns project upward from the hearth.15and the altar hearth, 7 feet, and from the altar hearth four horns projecting upward.
The altar hearth is square, twelve cubits long and twelve cubits wide.16Now the altar hearth is a perfect square, 21 feet long and 21 feet wide.
The upper ledge also is square, fourteen cubits long and fourteen cubits wide. All around the altar is a gutter of one cubit with a rim of half a cubit. The steps of the altar face east."17The ledge is 24 1/2 feet long and 24 1/2 feet wide on four sides; the border around it is 10 1/2 inches, and its surrounding base 1 3/4 feet. Its steps face east."
Then he said to me, "Son of man, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: These will be the regulations for sacrificing burnt offerings and splashing blood against the altar when it is built:18Then he said to me: "Son of man, this is what the sovereign LORD says: These are the statutes of the altar: On the day it is built to offer up burnt offerings on it and to sprinkle blood on it,
You are to give a young bull as a sin offering to the Levitical priests of the family of Zadok, who come near to minister before me, declares the Sovereign LORD.19you will give a young bull for a sin offering to the Levitical priests who are descended from Zadok, who approach me to minister to me, declares the sovereign LORD.
You are to take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the altar and on the four corners of the upper ledge and all around the rim, and so purify the altar and make atonement for it.20You will take some of its blood, and place it on the four horns of the altar, on the four corners of the ledge, and on the border all around; you will cleanse it and make atonement for it.
You are to take the bull for the sin offering and burn it in the designated part of the temple area outside the sanctuary.21You will also take the bull for the sin offering, and it will be burned in the appointed place in the temple, outside the sanctuary.
"On the second day you are to offer a male goat without defect for a sin offering, and the altar is to be purified as it was purified with the bull.22"On the second day, you will offer a male goat without blemish for a sin offering. They will purify the altar just as they purified it with the bull.
When you have finished purifying it, you are to offer a young bull and a ram from the flock, both without defect.23When you have finished purifying it, you will offer an unblemished young bull and an unblemished ram from the flock.
You are to offer them before the LORD, and the priests are to sprinkle salt on them and sacrifice them as a burnt offering to the LORD.24You will present them before the LORD, and the priests will scatter salt on them and offer them up as a burnt offering to the LORD.
"For seven days you are to provide a male goat daily for a sin offering; you are also to provide a young bull and a ram from the flock, both without defect.25"For seven days you will provide every day a goat for a sin offering; a young bull and a ram from the flock, both without blemish, will be provided.
For seven days they are to make atonement for the altar and cleanse it; thus they will dedicate it.26For seven days they will make atonement for the altar and cleanse it, so they will consecrate it.
At the end of these days, from the eighth day on, the priests are to present your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar. Then I will accept you, declares the Sovereign LORD."27When the prescribed period is over, on the eighth day and thereafter the priests will offer up on the altar your burnt offerings and your peace offerings; I will accept you, declares the sovereign LORD."
