New International VersionNET Bible
A psalm of Asaph. God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the "gods":1A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the assembly of El; in the midst of the gods he renders judgment.
"How long will you defend the unjust and show partiality to the wicked?2He says, "How long will you make unjust legal decisions and show favoritism to the wicked? (Selah)
Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.3Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! Vindicate the oppressed and suffering!
Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.4Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power of the wicked!
"The 'gods' know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.5They neither know nor understand. They stumble around in the dark, while all the foundations of the earth crumble.
"I said, 'You are "gods"; you are all sons of the Most High.'6I thought, 'You are gods; all of you are sons of the Most High.'
But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler."7Yet you will die like mortals; you will fall like all the other rulers."
Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.8Rise up, O God, and execute judgment on the earth! For you own all the nations.
