| 1A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain. | 1How great is the LORD, how deserving of praise, in the city of our God, which sits on his holy mountain! |
| 2Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth, like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King. | 2It is high and magnificent; the whole earth rejoices to see it! Mount Zion, the holy mountain, is the city of the great King! |
| 3God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress. | 3God himself is in Jerusalem’s towers, revealing himself as its defender. |
| 4When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together, | 4The kings of the earth joined forces and advanced against the city. |
| 5they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror. | 5But when they saw it, they were stunned; they were terrified and ran away. |
| 6Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor. | 6They were gripped with terror and writhed in pain like a woman in labor. |

| 9Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love. | 9O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your Temple. |

| 12Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers, | 12Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem. Walk around and count the many towers. |
| 13consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation. | 13Take note of the fortified walls, and tour all the citadels, that you may describe them to future generations. |
| 14For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. | 14For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die. |
