Psalm 48
NIV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionNew Living Translation
A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.1How great is the LORD, how deserving of praise, in the city of our God, which sits on his holy mountain!
Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth, like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King.2It is high and magnificent; the whole earth rejoices to see it! Mount Zion, the holy mountain, is the city of the great King!
God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress.3God himself is in Jerusalem’s towers, revealing himself as its defender.
When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together,4The kings of the earth joined forces and advanced against the city.
they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror.5But when they saw it, they were stunned; they were terrified and ran away.
Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor.6They were gripped with terror and writhed in pain like a woman in labor.
You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind.7You destroyed them like the mighty ships of Tarshish shattered by a powerful east wind.
As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever.8We had heard of the city’s glory, but now we have seen it ourselves— the city of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies. It is the city of our God; he will make it safe forever. Interlude
Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.9O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your Temple.
Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.10As your name deserves, O God, you will be praised to the ends of the earth. Your strong right hand is filled with victory.
Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments.11Let the people on Mount Zion rejoice. Let all the towns of Judah be glad because of your justice.
Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers,12Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem. Walk around and count the many towers.
consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation.13Take note of the fortified walls, and tour all the citadels, that you may describe them to future generations.
For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.14For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever, and he will guide us until we die.
