Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.
Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing.2Take notice: I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law.3Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.4You who are trying to be justified by the law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.5But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the hope of righteousness.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. All that matters is faith, expressed through love.
You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?7You were running so well. Who has obstructed you from obeying the truth?
This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you.8Such persuasion does not come from the One who calls you.
A little leaven leavens the whole lump.9A little leaven works through the whole batch of dough.
I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is.10I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is troubling you will bear the judgment, whoever he may be.
And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased.11Now, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off!12As for those who are agitating you, I wish they would proceed to emasculate themselves!
For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.13For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”14The entire law is fulfilled in a single decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!15But if you keep on biting and devouring one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another.
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.17For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,19The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery;
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,20idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions,
envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.23gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.25Since we live by the Spirit, let us walk in step with the Spirit.
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another.
