Galatians 5
NKJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.1For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing.2Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you.
And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law.3I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law.
You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.4You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.
For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.5For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?7You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?
This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you.8This persuasion is not from him who calls you.
A little leaven leavens the whole lump.9A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is.10I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is.
And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why do I still suffer persecution? Then the offense of the cross has ceased.11But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.
I could wish that those who trouble you would even cut themselves off!12I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves!
For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.13For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”14For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!15But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.17For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,19Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,20idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions,
envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.21envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.23gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.24And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.25If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
