Psalm 42
NKJV Parallel CSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionChristian Standard Bible
1To the Chief Musician. A Contemplation of the sons of Korah. As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.1As a deer longs for flowing streams, so I long for you, God.
2My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?2I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and appear before God?
3My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me, “Where is your God?”3My tears have been my food day and night, while all day long people say to me, "Where is your God?"
4When I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me. For I used to go with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.4I remember this as I pour out my heart: how I walked with many, leading the festive procession to the house of God, with joyful and thankful shouts.
5Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.5Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise him, my Savior and my God.
6O my God, my soul is cast down within me; Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan, And from the heights of Hermon, From the Hill Mizar.6I am deeply depressed; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.
7Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me.7Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your billows have swept over me.
8The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, And in the night His song shall be with me— A prayer to the God of my life.8The LORD will send his faithful love by day; his song will be with me in the night--a prayer to the God of my life.
9I will say to God my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”9I will say to God, my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go about in sorrow because of the enemy's oppression?"
10As with a breaking of my bones, My enemies reproach me, While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”10My adversaries taunt me, as if crushing my bones, while all day long they say to me, "Where is your God?"
11Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.11Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise him, my Savior and my God.
