Psalm 139
NKJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionEnglish Standard Version
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me and known me.1O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.2You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.
You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.3You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.4Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.5You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.6Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.
Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?7Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.8If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,9If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.10even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me;11If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,”
Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.12even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.13For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.14I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.15My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.16Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!17How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.18If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.
Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God! Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men.19Oh that you would slay the wicked, O God! O men of blood, depart from me!
For they speak against You wickedly; Your enemies take Your name in vain.20They speak against you with malicious intent; your enemies take your name in vain.
Do I not hate them, O LORD, who hate You? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?21Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.22I hate them with complete hatred; I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties;23Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.24And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
