A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?1Davidic. The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom should I be afraid?
When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.2When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh, my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell.
Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident.3Though an army deploys against me, my heart is not afraid; though a war breaks out against me, still I am confident.
One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.4I have asked one thing from the LORD; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the LORD and seeking Him in His temple.
For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.5For He will conceal me in His shelter in the day of adversity; He will hide me under the cover of His tent; He will set me high on a rock.
And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.6Then my head will be high above my enemies around me; I will offer sacrifices in His tent with shouts of joy. I will sing and make music to the LORD.
Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.7 LORD, hear my voice when I call; be gracious to me and answer me.
When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”8My heart says this about You," You are to seek My face." LORD, I will seek Your face.
Do not hide Your face from me; Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation.9Do not hide Your face from me; do not turn Your servant away in anger. You have been my helper; do not leave me or abandon me, God of my salvation.
When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the LORD will take care of me.10Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD cares for me.
Teach me Your way, O LORD, And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.11Because of my adversaries, show me Your way, LORD, and lead me on a level path.
Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, And such as breathe out violence.12Do not give me over to the will of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing violence.
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.13I am certain that I will see the LORD's goodness in the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!14Wait for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait for the LORD.
