A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?1The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.2When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident.3Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.
One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.4The one thing I ask of the LORD— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.
For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.5For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.6Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the LORD with music.
Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.7Hear me as I pray, O LORD. Be merciful and answer me!
When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”8My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”
Do not hide Your face from me; Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation.9Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation!
When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the LORD will take care of me.10Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.
Teach me Your way, O LORD, And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.11Teach me how to live, O LORD. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me.
Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; For false witnesses have risen against me, And such as breathe out violence.12Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence.
I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.13Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!14Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.
