| 1Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. | 1Brothers, if a person is caught doing something wrong, those of you who are spiritual should restore that person gently. Watch out for yourself so that you are not tempted as well. |
| 2Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. | 2Practice carrying each other's burdens. In this way you will fulfill the law of the Messiah. |
| 3For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. | 3For if anyone thinks he is something when he is really nothing, he is only fooling himself. |
| 4But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. | 4Each person must examine his own actions, and then he can boast about his own accomplishments and not about someone else. |
| 5For each one shall bear his own load. | 5For everyone must carry his own load. |
| 6Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches. | 6The person who is taught the word should share all his goods with his teacher. |
| 7Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. | 7Stop being deceived; God is not to be ridiculed. A person harvests whatever he plants: |
| 8For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. | 8The person who sows through human means will harvest decay from human means, but the person who sows in the Spirit will harvest eternal life from the Spirit. |
| 9And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. | 9Let's not get tired of doing what is good, for at the right time we will reap a harvest—if we do not give up. |
| 10Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. | 10So then, whenever we have the opportunity, let's practice doing good to everyone, especially to the family of faith. |
| 11See with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand! | 11Look at how large these letters are because I am writing with my own hand! |
| 12As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. | 12These people who want to impress others by their external appearance are trying to force you to be circumcised, simply to avoid being persecuted for the cross of the Messiah. |
| 13For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. | 13Why, not even those who are circumcised obey the Law! They simply want you to be circumcised so that they can boast about your external appearance. |
| 14But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. | 14But may I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world! |
| 15For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. | 15For neither circumcision nor uncircumcision matters. Rather, what matters is being a new creation. |
| 16And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. | 16Now may peace be on all those who live by this principle, and may mercy be on the Israel of God. |
| 17From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. | 17Let no one make any more trouble for me, because I carry the scars of Jesus on my own body. |
| 18Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. | 18May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with your spirit, brothers! Amen. |
