Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”1Now the Shining One was more clever than any animal of the field that the LORD God had made. It asked the woman, "Did God actually say, 'You are not to eat from any tree of the garden'?"
And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;2"We may eat from the trees of the garden," the woman answered the serpent,
but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”3"but as for the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You are not to eat from it, nor are you to touch it, or you will die.'"
Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.4"You certainly will not die!" the Shining One told the woman.
For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”5"Even God knows that on the day you eat from it, your eyes will be opened and you'll become like God, knowing good and evil."
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.6When the woman saw that the tree produced good food, was attractive in appearance, and was desirable for making one wise, she took some of its fruit and ate it. Then she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate some, too.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.7As a result, they both understood what they had done, and they became aware that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.
And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.8When they heard the voice of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden during the breeze of the day, the man and his wife concealed themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”9So the LORD God called out to the man, asking him, "Where are you?"
So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”10"I heard your voice in the garden," the man answered, "and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid from you."
And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”11"Who told you that you are naked?" God asked. "Did you eat fruit from the tree that I commanded you not to eat?"
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”12The man answered, "The woman whom you provided for me gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate some of it."
And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”13Then the LORD God asked the woman, "What did you do?" "The Shining One misled me," the woman answered, "so I ate."
So the LORD God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life.14The LORD God told the Shining One, "Because you have done this, you are more cursed than all the livestock, and more than all the earth's animals, You'll crawl on your belly and eat dust as long as you live.
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”15"I'll place hostility between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. He'll strike you on the head, and you'll strike him on the heel."
To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.”16He told the woman, "I'll greatly increase the pain of your labor during childbirth. It will be painful for you to bear children, "since your trust is turning toward your husband, and he will dominate you."
Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life.17He told the man, "Because you have listened to what your wife said, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat from it,' cursed is the ground because of you. You'll eat from it through pain-filled labor for the rest of your life.
Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field.18It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you'll eat the plants from the meadows.
In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”19You will eat food by the sweat of your brow until you're buried in the ground, because you were taken from it. You're made from dust and you'll return to dust."
And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.20Now Adam had named his wife "Eve," because she was to become the mother of everyone who was living.
Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.21The LORD God fashioned garments from animal skins for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.
Then the LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—22Later, the LORD God said, "Look! The man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, so he won't reach out, also take from the tree of life, eat, and then live forever—"
therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.23therefore the LORD God expelled the man from the garden of Eden so he would work the ground from which he had been taken.
So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.24After he had expelled the man, the LORD God placed winged angels at the eastern end of the garden of Eden, along with a fiery, turning sword, to prevent access to the tree of life.
