Romans 2
NKJV Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New King James VersionNew International Version
Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.1You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.2Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.
And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?3So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment?
Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?4Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,5But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.
who “will render to each one according to his deeds”:6God "will repay each person according to what they have done."
eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;7To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.
but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,8But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.
tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;9There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;
but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.10but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
For there is no partiality with God.11For God does not show favoritism.
For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law12All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.
(for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;13For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves,14(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law.
who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them)15They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.)
in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.16This will take place on the day when God judges people's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
Indeed you are called a Jew, and rest on the law, and make your boast in God,17Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God;
and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law,18if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law;
and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,19if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark,
an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law.20an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth--
You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal?21you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?22You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law?23You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written.24As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."
For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the law; but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.25Circumcision has value if you observe the law, but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised.
Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision?26So then, if those who are not circumcised keep the law's requirements, will they not be regarded as though they were circumcised?
And will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the law, judge you who, even with your written code and circumcision, are a transgressor of the law?27The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.
For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh;28A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical.
but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.29No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person's praise is not from other people, but from God.
