Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God1Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God--
which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures,2the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures
concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,3regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David,
and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.4and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name,5Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name's sake.
among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;6And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.7To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.
For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers,9God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you
making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you.10in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you.
For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established—11I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong--
that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.12that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith.
Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles.13I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.
I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise.14I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.
So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.15That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”17For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed--a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools,22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools
and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves,24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.
who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.25They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen.
For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.
Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;28Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.
being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers,29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,
backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;
undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;31they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.
who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
