The LORD, the Mighty One, is God, and he has spoken; he has summoned all humanity from where the sun rises to where it sets.1A Psalm of Asaph. The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from where the sun rises to where it sets.
From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines in glorious radiance.2From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth.
Our God approaches, and he is not silent. Fire devours everything in his way, and a great storm rages around him.3Our God approaches and will not be silent! Consuming fire precedes Him, and a tempest rages around Him.
He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people.4He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that He may judge His people:
“Bring my faithful people to me— those who made a covenant with me by giving sacrifices.”5“Gather to Me My saints, who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”
Then let the heavens proclaim his justice, for God himself will be the judge. Interlude6And the heavens proclaim His righteousness, for God Himself is Judge. Selah
“O my people, listen as I speak. Here are my charges against you, O Israel: I am God, your God!7“Hear, O My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God.
I have no complaint about your sacrifices or the burnt offerings you constantly offer.8I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices, and your burnt offerings are ever before Me.
But I do not need the bulls from your barns or the goats from your pens.9I have no need for a bull from your stall or goats from your pens,
For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.10for every beast of the forest is Mine—the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine.11I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are Mine.
If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for all the world is mine and everything in it.12If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and the fullness thereof.
Do I eat the meat of bulls? Do I drink the blood of goats?13Do I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High.14Sacrifice a thank offering to God, and fulfill your vows to the Most High.
Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”15Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor Me.”
But God says to the wicked: “Why bother reciting my decrees and pretending to obey my covenant?16To the wicked, however, God says, “What right have you to recite My statutes and to bear My covenant on your lips?
For you refuse my discipline and treat my words like trash.17For you hate My instruction and cast My words behind you.
When you see thieves, you approve of them, and you spend your time with adulterers.18When you see a thief, you befriend him, and throw in your lot with adulterers.
Your mouth is filled with wickedness, and your tongue is full of lies.19You unleash your mouth for evil and unharness your tongue for deceit.
You sit around and slander your brother— your own mother’s son.20You sit and malign your brother; you slander your own mother’s son.
While you did all this, I remained silent, and you thought I didn’t care. But now I will rebuke you, listing all my charges against you.21You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But now I rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
Repent, all of you who forget me, or I will tear you apart, and no one will help you.22Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:
But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.”23He who sacrifices a thank offering honors Me, and to him who rights his way, I will show the salvation of God.”
