Psalm 56
NLT Parallel BSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationBerean Study Bible
O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long.1For the choirmaster. To the tune of “A Dove on Distant Oaks.” A Miktam of David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath. Be merciful to me, O God, for men are hounding me; all day they press their attack.
I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me.2My enemies pursue me all day long, for many proudly assail me.
But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.3When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.
I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?4In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
They are always twisting what I say; they spend their days plotting to harm me.5All day long they twist my words; all their thoughts are on my demise.
They come together to spy on me— watching my every step, eager to kill me.6They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps while they wait to take my life.
Don’t let them get away with their wickedness; in your anger, O God, bring them down.7In spite of such sin, will they escape? In Your anger, O God, cast down the nations.
You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.8You have taken account of my wanderings. Put my tears in Your bottle—are they not in Your book?
My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side!9Then my enemies will retreat on the day I cry for help. By this I will know that God is on my side.
I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the LORD for what he has promised.10In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise,
I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?11in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?
I will fulfill my vows to you, O God, and will offer a sacrifice of thanks for your help.12Your vows are upon me, O God; I will render thank offerings to You.
For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.13For You have delivered my soul from death, and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
