Psalm 56
NLT Parallel KJV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationKing James Bible
O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long.1To the chief Musician upon Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.
I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me.2Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.3What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?4In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
They are always twisting what I say; they spend their days plotting to harm me.5Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.
They come together to spy on me— watching my every step, eager to kill me.6They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
Don’t let them get away with their wickedness; in your anger, O God, bring them down.7Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.8Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side!9When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the LORD for what he has promised.10In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.
I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?11In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
I will fulfill my vows to you, O God, and will offer a sacrifice of thanks for your help.12Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.
For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.13For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
