“Call for your brother, Aaron, and his sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. Set them apart from the rest of the people of Israel so they may minister to me and be my priests.1"Have your brother Aaron, with his sons, come to you from the Israelites to serve me as priest--Aaron, his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
Make sacred garments for Aaron that are glorious and beautiful.2Make holy garments for your brother Aaron, for glory and beauty.
Instruct all the skilled craftsmen whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom. Have them make garments for Aaron that will distinguish him as a priest set apart for my service.3You are to instruct all the skilled artisans, whom I have filled with a spirit of wisdom, to make Aaron's garments for consecrating him to serve me as priest.
These are the garments they are to make: a chestpiece, an ephod, a robe, a patterned tunic, a turban, and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother, Aaron, and his sons to wear when they serve me as priests.4These are the garments that they must make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a specially woven tunic, a turban, and a sash. They are to make holy garments for your brother Aaron and his sons so that they may serve me as priests.
So give them fine linen cloth, gold thread, and blue, purple, and scarlet thread. Design of the Ephod5They should use gold; blue, purple, and scarlet yarn; and fine linen.
“The craftsmen must make the ephod of finely woven linen and skillfully embroider it with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread.6"They are to make the ephod of finely spun linen embroidered with gold, and with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn.
It will consist of two pieces, front and back, joined at the shoulders with two shoulder-pieces.7It must have two shoulder pieces attached to its two edges so that it can be joined together.
The decorative sash will be made of the same materials: finely woven linen embroidered with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread.8The artistically woven waistband that is on the ephod must be of one piece, according to the same workmanship of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and of finely spun linen.
“Take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the tribes of Israel.9"Take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of Israel's sons:
Six names will be on each stone, arranged in the order of the births of the original sons of Israel.10six of their names on the first stone and the remaining six names on the second stone, in the order of their birth.
Engrave these names on the two stones in the same way a jeweler engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in settings of gold filigree.11Engrave the two stones with the names of Israel's sons as a gem cutter engraves a seal. Mount them, surrounded with gold filigree settings.
Fasten the two stones on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod as a reminder that Aaron represents the people of Israel. Aaron will carry these names on his shoulders as a constant reminder whenever he goes before the LORD.12Fasten both stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the Israelites. Aaron will carry their names on his two shoulders before the LORD as a reminder.
Make the settings of gold filigree,13Fashion gold filigree settings
then braid two cords of pure gold and attach them to the filigree settings on the shoulders of the ephod. Design of the Chestpiece14and two chains of pure gold; you will make them of braided cord work, and attach the cord chains to the settings.
“Then, with great skill and care, make a chestpiece to be worn for seeking a decision from God. Make it to match the ephod, using finely woven linen embroidered with gold and with blue, purple, and scarlet thread.15"You are to make an embroidered breastpiece for making decisions. Make it with the same workmanship as the ephod; make it of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and of finely spun linen.
Make the chestpiece of a single piece of cloth folded to form a pouch nine inches square.16It must be square and folded double, nine inches long and nine inches wide.
Mount four rows of gemstones on it. The first row will contain a red carnelian, a pale-green peridot, and an emerald.17Place a setting of gemstones on it, four rows of stones: The first row should be a row of carnelian, topaz, and emerald;
The second row will contain a turquoise, a blue lapis lazuli, and a white moonstone.18the second row, a turquoise, a lapis lazuli, and a diamond;
The third row will contain an orange jacinth, an agate, and a purple amethyst.19the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;
The fourth row will contain a blue-green beryl, an onyx, and a green jasper. All these stones will be set in gold filigree.20and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They should be adorned with gold filigree in their settings.
Each stone will represent one of the twelve sons of Israel, and the name of that tribe will be engraved on it like a seal.21The twelve stones are to correspond to the names of Israel's sons. Each stone must be engraved like a seal, with one of the names of the twelve tribes.
“To attach the chestpiece to the ephod, make braided cords of pure gold thread.22"You are to make braided chains of pure gold cord work for the breastpiece.
Then make two gold rings and attach them to the top corners of the chestpiece.23Fashion two gold rings for the breastpiece and attach them to its two corners.
Tie the two gold cords to the two rings on the chestpiece.24Then attach the two gold cords to the two gold rings at the corners of the breastpiece.
Tie the other ends of the cords to the gold settings on the shoulder-pieces of the ephod.25Attach the other ends of the two cords to the two filigree settings, and in this way attach them to the ephod's shoulder pieces in the front.
Then make two more gold rings and attach them to the inside edges of the chestpiece next to the ephod.26Make two other gold rings and put them at the two other corners of the breastpiece on the edge that is next to the inner border of the ephod.
And make two more gold rings and attach them to the front of the ephod, below the shoulder-pieces, just above the knot where the decorative sash is fastened to the ephod.27Make two more gold rings and attach them to the bottom of the ephod's two shoulder pieces on its front, close to its seam, and above the ephod's woven waistband.
Then attach the bottom rings of the chestpiece to the rings on the ephod with blue cords. This will hold the chestpiece securely to the ephod above the decorative sash.28The artisans are to tie the breastpiece from its rings to the rings of the ephod with a cord of blue yarn, so that the breastpiece is above the ephod's waistband and does not come loose from the ephod.
“In this way, Aaron will carry the names of the tribes of Israel on the sacred chestpiece over his heart when he goes into the Holy Place. This will be a continual reminder that he represents the people when he comes before the LORD.29"Whenever he enters the sanctuary, Aaron is to carry the names of Israel's sons over his heart on the breastpiece for decisions, as a continual reminder before the LORD.
Insert the Urim and Thummim into the sacred chestpiece so they will be carried over Aaron’s heart when he goes into the LORD’s presence. In this way, Aaron will always carry over his heart the objects used to determine the LORD’s will for his people whenever he goes in before the LORD. Additional Clothing for the Priests30Place the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece for decisions, so that they will also be over Aaron's heart whenever he comes before the LORD. Aaron will continually carry the means of decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the LORD.
“Make the robe that is worn with the ephod from a single piece of blue cloth,31"You are to make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue yarn.
with an opening for Aaron’s head in the middle of it. Reinforce the opening with a woven collar so it will not tear.32There should be an opening at its top in the center of it. Around the opening, there should be a woven collar with an opening like that of body armor so that it does not tear.
Make pomegranates out of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and attach them to the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them.33Make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn on its lower hem and all around it. Put gold bells between them all the way around,
The gold bells and pomegranates are to alternate all around the hem.34so that gold bells and pomegranates alternate around the lower hem of the robe.
Aaron will wear this robe whenever he ministers before the LORD, and the bells will tinkle as he goes in and out of the LORD’s presence in the Holy Place. If he wears it, he will not die.35The robe will be worn by Aaron whenever he ministers, and its sound will be heard when he enters the sanctuary before the LORD and when he exits, so that he does not die.
“Next make a medallion of pure gold, and engrave it like a seal with these words: Holy to the Lord .36"You are to make a pure gold medallion and engrave it, like the engraving of a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD.
Attach the medallion with a blue cord to the front of Aaron’s turban, where it must remain.37Fasten it to a cord of blue yarn so it can be placed on the turban; the medallion is to be on the front of the turban.
Aaron must wear it on his forehead so he may take on himself any guilt of the people of Israel when they consecrate their sacred offerings. He must always wear it on his forehead so the LORD will accept the people.38It will be on Aaron's forehead so that Aaron may bear the guilt connected with the holy offerings that the Israelites consecrate as all their holy gifts. It is always to be on his forehead, so that they may find acceptance with the LORD.
“Weave Aaron’s patterned tunic from fine linen cloth. Fashion the turban from this linen as well. Also make a sash, and decorate it with colorful embroidery.39"You are to weave the tunic from fine linen, make a turban of fine linen, and make an embroidered sash.
“For Aaron’s sons, make tunics, sashes, and special head coverings that are glorious and beautiful.40Make tunics, sashes, and headbands for Aaron's sons to give them glory and beauty.
Clothe your brother, Aaron, and his sons with these garments, and then anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they can serve as my priests.41Put these on your brother Aaron and his sons; then anoint, ordain, and consecrate them, so that they may serve me as priests.
Also make linen undergarments for them, to be worn next to their bodies, reaching from their hips to their thighs.42Make them linen undergarments to cover their naked bodies; they must extend from the waist to the thighs.
These must be worn whenever Aaron and his sons enter the Tabernacle or approach the altar in the Holy Place to perform their priestly duties. Then they will not incur guilt and die. This is a permanent law for Aaron and all his descendants after him.43These must be worn by Aaron and his sons whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the sanctuary area, so that they do not incur guilt and die. This is to be a permanent statute for Aaron and for his future descendants.
