Psalm 139
NLT Parallel CSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationChristian Standard Bible
O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.1LORD, you have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.2You know when I sit down and when I stand up; you understand my thoughts from far away.
You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.3You observe my travels and my rest; you are aware of all my ways.
You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD.4Before a word is on my tongue, you know all about it, LORD.
You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.5You have encircled me; you have placed your hand on me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!6This wondrous knowledge is beyond me. It is lofty; I am unable to reach it.
I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!7Where can I go to escape your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there.8If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,9If I live at the eastern horizon or settle at the western limits,
even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.10even there your hand will lead me; your right hand will hold on to me.
I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—11If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me, and the light around me will be night"--
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.12even the darkness is not dark to you. The night shines like the day; darkness and light are alike to you.
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.13For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.14I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.15My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth.
You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.16Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!17God, how precious your thoughts are to me; how vast their sum is!
I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!18If I counted them, they would outnumber the grains of sand; when I wake up, I am still with you.
O God, if only you would destroy the wicked! Get out of my life, you murderers!19God, if only you would kill the wicked--you bloodthirsty men, stay away from me--
They blaspheme you; your enemies misuse your name.20who invoke you deceitfully. Your enemies swear by you falsely.
O LORD, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you? Shouldn’t I despise those who oppose you?21LORD, don't I hate those who hate you, and detest those who rebel against you?
Yes, I hate them with total hatred, for your enemies are my enemies.22I hate them with extreme hatred; I consider them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.23Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns.
Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.24See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.
