Timothy 4
NLT Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.1Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,
These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.2through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared,
They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.3who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.4For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
For we know it is made acceptable by the word of God and prayer. A Good Servant of Christ Jesus5for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.
If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters, Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed.6If you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed.
Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly.7Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness;
“Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”8for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.9The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance.
This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers.10For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.
Teach these things and insist that everyone learn them.11Command and teach these things.
Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.12Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them.13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.
Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.14Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you.
Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.15Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.
Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you.16Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.
