| 1O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent, | 1Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, |
| 2those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long. | 2who plan evil things in their heart and stir up wars continually. |
| 3Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. Interlude | 3They make their tongue sharp as a serpent’s, and under their lips is the venom of asps. Selah |
| 4O LORD, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me. | 4Guard me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, who have planned to trip up my feet. |
| 5The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude | 5The arrogant have hidden a trap for me, and with cords they have spread a net; beside the way they have set snares for me. Selah |
| 6I said to the LORD, “You are my God!” Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy! | 6I say to the LORD, You are my God; give ear to the voice of my pleas for mercy, O LORD! |

| 8LORD, do not let evil people have their way. Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud. Interlude | 8Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; do not further their evil plot, or they will be exalted! Selah |
| 9Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me. | 9As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their lips overwhelm them! |
| 10Let burning coals fall down on their heads. Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape. | 10Let burning coals fall upon them! Let them be cast into fire, into miry pits, no more to rise! |
| 11Don’t let liars prosper here in our land. Cause great disasters to fall on the violent. | 11Let not the slanderer be established in the land; let evil hunt down the violent man speedily! |
| 12But I know the LORD will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor. | 12I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and will execute justice for the needy. |
| 13Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence. | 13Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name; the upright shall dwell in your presence. |
