New Living TranslationNew American Standard Bible 1995
The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?1A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?
When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.2When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.
Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.3Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident.
The one thing I ask of the LORD— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.4One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD And to meditate in His temple.
For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.5For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.
Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the LORD with music.6And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.
Hear me as I pray, O LORD. Be merciful and answer me!7Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice, And be gracious to me and answer me.
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”8When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, O LORD, I shall seek."
Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation!9Do not hide Your face from me, Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not abandon me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation!
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.10For my father and my mother have forsaken me, But the LORD will take me up.
Teach me how to live, O LORD. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me.11Teach me Your way, O LORD, And lead me in a level path Because of my foes.
Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence.12Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, For false witnesses have risen against me, And such as breathe out violence.
Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.13I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.
Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.14Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.
