Psalm 27
NLT Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.2When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall.
Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.3Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.
The one thing I ask of the LORD— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.4One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.
For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.5For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.
Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the LORD with music.6And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD.
Hear me as I pray, O LORD. Be merciful and answer me!7Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me!
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.”8You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.”
Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me, O God of my salvation!9Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation!
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.10For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in.
Teach me how to live, O LORD. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me.11Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.
Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence.12Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.
Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.13I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!
Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD.14Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!
