Tainted wealth has no lasting value, but right living can save your life.2Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from mortal danger.
The LORD will not let the godly go hungry, but he refuses to satisfy the craving of the wicked.3The LORD satisfies the appetite of the righteous, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.
Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich.4The one who is lazy becomes poor, but the one who works diligently becomes wealthy.
A wise youth harvests in the summer, but one who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace.5The one who gathers crops in the summer is a wise son, but the one who sleeps during the harvest is a son who brings shame to himself.
The godly are showered with blessings; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.6Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the speech of the wicked conceals violence.

People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.9The one who conducts himself in integrity will live securely, but the one who behaves perversely will be found out.
People who wink at wrong cause trouble, but a bold reproof promotes peace.10The one who winks his eye causes trouble, and the one who speaks foolishness will come to ruin.
The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.11The teaching of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the speech of the wicked conceals violence.
Hatred stirs up quarrels, but love makes up for all offenses.12Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers all transgressions.
Wise words come from the lips of people with understanding, but those lacking sense will be beaten with a rod.13Wisdom is found in the words of the discerning person, but the one who lacks wisdom will be disciplined.
Wise people treasure knowledge, but the babbling of a fool invites disaster.14Those who are wise store up knowledge, but foolish speech leads to imminent destruction.
The wealth of the rich is their fortress; the poverty of the poor is their destruction.15The wealth of a rich person is like a fortified city, but the poor are brought to ruin by their poverty.
The earnings of the godly enhance their lives, but evil people squander their money on sin.16The reward which the righteous receive is life; the recompense which the wicked receive is judgment.
People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go astray.17The one who heeds instruction is on the way to life, but the one who rejects rebuke goes astray.
Hiding hatred makes you a liar; slandering others makes you a fool.18The one who conceals hatred utters lies, and the one who spreads slander is certainly a fool.
Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.19When words abound, transgression is inevitable, but the one who restrains his words is wise.
The words of the godly are like sterling silver; the heart of a fool is worthless.20What the righteous say is like the best silver, but what the wicked think is of little value.
The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.21The teaching of the righteous feeds many, but fools die for lack of wisdom.

When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.25When the storm passes through, the wicked are swept away, but the righteous are an everlasting foundation.
Lazy people irritate their employers, like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes.26Like vinegar to the teeth and like smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.
Fear of the LORD lengthens one’s life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.27Fearing the LORD prolongs life, but the life span of the wicked will be shortened.
The hopes of the godly result in happiness, but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.28The hope of the righteous is joy, but the expectation of the wicked will remain unfulfilled.
The way of the LORD is a stronghold to those with integrity, but it destroys the wicked.29The way of the LORD is like a stronghold for the upright, but it is destruction to evildoers.
The godly will never be disturbed, but the wicked will be removed from the land.30The righteous will never be moved, but the wicked will not inhabit the land.
The mouth of the godly person gives wise advice, but the tongue that deceives will be cut off.31The speech of the righteous bears the fruit of wisdom, but the one who speaks perversion will be destroyed.
The lips of the godly speak helpful words, but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse words.32The lips of the righteous know what is pleasing, but the speech of the wicked is perverse.
