God's Covenant with Solomon

(2 Chronicles 7:11-22)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1When Solomon had finished building the temple of the LORD and the royal palace, and had achieved all he had desired to do,1As soon as Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD and the king’s house and all that Solomon desired to build,1Now it came about when Solomon had finished building the house of the LORD, and the king's house, and all that Solomon desired to do,1And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to do,1When Solomon finished building the temple of the LORD, the royal palace, and all that Solomon desired to do,
2the LORD appeared to him a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.2the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.2that the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon.2That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.2the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time just as He had appeared to him at Gibeon.
3The LORD said to him: "I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there.3And the LORD said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your plea, which you have made before me. I have consecrated this house that you have built, by putting my name there forever. My eyes and my heart will be there for all time.3The LORD said to him, "I have heard your prayer and your supplication, which you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built by putting My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.3And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.3The LORD said to him: I have heard your prayer and petition you have made before Me. I have consecrated this temple you have built, to put My name there forever; My eyes and My heart will be there at all times.
4"As for you, if you walk before me faithfully with integrity of heart and uprightness, as David your father did, and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws,4And as for you, if you will walk before me, as David your father walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you, and keeping my statutes and my rules,4"As for you, if you will walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you and will keep My statutes and My ordinances,4And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:4As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, with a heart of integrity and in what is right, doing everything I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and ordinances,

5I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father when I said, 'You shall never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.'5then I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’5then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I promised to your father David, saying, 'You shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.'5Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.5I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever, as I promised your father David: You will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.
6"But if you or your descendants turn away from me and do not observe the commands and decrees I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them,6But if you turn aside from following me, you or your children, and do not keep my commandments and my statutes that I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them,6"But if you or your sons indeed turn away from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them,6But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:6If you or your sons turn away from following Me and do not keep My commands--My statutes that I have set before you--and if you go and serve other gods and worship them,
7then I will cut off Israel from the land I have given them and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. Israel will then become a byword and an object of ridicule among all peoples.7then I will cut off Israel from the land that I have given them, and the house that I have consecrated for my name I will cast out of my sight, and Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all peoples.7then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will cast out of My sight. So Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all peoples.7Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:7I will cut off Israel from the land I gave them, and I will reject the temple I have sanctified for My name. Israel will become an object of scorn and ridicule among all the peoples.
8This temple will become a heap of rubble. All who pass by will be appalled and will scoff and say, 'Why has the LORD done such a thing to this land and to this temple?'8And this house will become a heap of ruins. Everyone passing by it will be astonished and will hiss, and they will say, ‘Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?’8"And this house will become a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by will be astonished and hiss and say, 'Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?'8And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?8Though this temple is now exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will mock. They will say: Why did the LORD do this to this land and this temple?
9People will answer, 'Because they have forsaken the LORD their God, who brought their ancestors out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them--that is why the LORD brought all this disaster on them.'"9Then they will say, ‘Because they abandoned the LORD their God who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them. Therefore the LORD has brought all this disaster on them.’”9"And they will say, 'Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them, therefore the LORD has brought all this adversity on them.'"9And they shall answer, Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil.9Then they will say: Because they abandoned the LORD their God who brought their ancestors out of the land of Egypt. They clung to other gods and worshiped and served them. Because of this, the LORD brought all this ruin on them.

Cities Given to Hiram

(2 Chronicles 8:1-18)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
10At the end of twenty years, during which Solomon built these two buildings--the temple of the LORD and the royal palace--10At the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD and the king’s house,10It came about at the end of twenty years in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD and the king's house10And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD, and the king's house,10At the end of 20 years during which Solomon had built the two houses, the LORD's temple and the royal palace--
11King Solomon gave twenty towns in Galilee to Hiram king of Tyre, because Hiram had supplied him with all the cedar and juniper and gold he wanted.11and Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and cypress timber and gold, as much as he desired, King Solomon gave to Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.11(Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and cypress timber and gold according to all his desire), then King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.11(Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.11Hiram king of Tyre having supplied him with cedar and cypress logs and gold for his every wish--King Solomon gave Hiram 20 towns in the land of Galilee.
12But when Hiram went from Tyre to see the towns that Solomon had given him, he was not pleased with them.12But when Hiram came from Tyre to see the cities that Solomon had given him, they did not please him.12So Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they did not please him.12And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.12So Hiram went out from Tyre to look over the towns that Solomon had given him, but he was not pleased with them.
13"What kind of towns are these you have given me, my brother?" he asked. And he called them the Land of Kabul, a name they have to this day.13Therefore he said, “What kind of cities are these that you have given me, my brother?” So they are called the land of Cabul to this day.13He said, "What are these cities which you have given me, my brother?" So they were called the land of Cabul to this day.13And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.13So he said, "What are these towns you've given me, my brother?" So he called them the Land of Cabul, as they are still called today.
14Now Hiram had sent to the king 120 talents of gold.14Hiram had sent to the king 120 talents of gold.14And Hiram sent to the king 120 talents of gold.14And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.14Now Hiram had sent the king 9,000 pounds of gold.

Solomon's Numerous Achievements

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
15Here is the account of the forced labor King Solomon conscripted to build the LORD's temple, his own palace, the terraces, the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, Megiddo and Gezer.15And this is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon drafted to build the house of the LORD and his own house and the Millo and the wall of Jerusalem and Hazor and Megiddo and Gezer15Now this is the account of the forced labor which King Solomon levied to build the house of the LORD, his own house, the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.15And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.15This is the account of the forced labor that King Solomon had imposed to build the LORD's temple, his own palace, the supporting terraces, the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.
16(Pharaoh king of Egypt had attacked and captured Gezer. He had set it on fire. He killed its Canaanite inhabitants and then gave it as a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon's wife.16(Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and had killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and had given it as dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife;16For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and had given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife.16For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon's wife.16Pharaoh king of Egypt had attacked and captured Gezer. He then burned it down, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and gave it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife.
17And Solomon rebuilt Gezer.) He built up Lower Beth Horon,17so Solomon rebuilt Gezer) and Lower Beth-horon17So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and the lower Beth-horon17And Solomon built Gezer, and Bethhoron the nether,17Then Solomon rebuilt Gezer, Lower Beth-horon,
18Baalath, and Tadmor in the desert, within his land,18and Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah,18and Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah,18And Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land,18Baalath, Tamar in the Wilderness of Judah,

19as well as all his store cities and the towns for his chariots and for his horses --whatever he desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon and throughout all the territory he ruled.19and all the store cities that Solomon had, and the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and whatever Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.19and all the storage cities which Solomon had, even the cities for his chariots and the cities for his horsemen, and all that it pleased Solomon to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land under his rule.19And all the cities of store that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.19all the storage cities that belonged to Solomon, the chariot cities, the cavalry cities, and whatever Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, Lebanon, or anywhere else in the land of his dominion.
20There were still people left from the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites (these peoples were not Israelites).20All the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the people of Israel—20As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel,20And all the people that were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which were not of the children of Israel,20As for all the peoples who remained of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not Israelites--
21Solomon conscripted the descendants of all these peoples remaining in the land--whom the Israelites could not exterminate --to serve as slave labor, as it is to this day.21their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the people of Israel were unable to devote to destruction—these Solomon drafted to be slaves, and so they are to this day.21their descendants who were left after them in the land whom the sons of Israel were unable to destroy utterly, from them Solomon levied forced laborers, even to this day.21Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon levy a tribute of bondservice unto this day.21their descendants who remained in the land after them, those whom the Israelites were unable to completely destroy--Solomon imposed forced labor on them; it is this way until today.
22But Solomon did not make slaves of any of the Israelites; they were his fighting men, his government officials, his officers, his captains, and the commanders of his chariots and charioteers.22But of the people of Israel Solomon made no slaves. They were the soldiers, they were his officials, his commanders, his captains, his chariot commanders and his horsemen.22But Solomon did not make slaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, his chariot commanders, and his horsemen.22But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondmen: but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots, and his horsemen.22But Solomon did not consign the Israelites to slavery; they were soldiers, his servants, his commanders, his captains, and commanders of his chariots and his cavalry.
23They were also the chief officials in charge of Solomon's projects--550 officials supervising those who did the work.23These were the chief officers who were over Solomon’s work: 550 who had charge of the people who carried on the work.23These were the chief officers who were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people doing the work.23These were the chief of the officers that were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.23These were the deputies who were over Solomon's work: 550 who ruled over the people doing the work.

24After Pharaoh's daughter had come up from the City of David to the palace Solomon had built for her, he constructed the terraces.24But Pharaoh’s daughter went up from the city of David to her own house that Solomon had built for her. Then he built the Millo.24As soon as Pharaoh's daughter came up from the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her, then he built the Millo.24But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which Solomon had built for her: then did he build Millo.24Pharaoh's daughter moved from the city of David to the house that Solomon had built for her; he then built the terraces.
25Three times a year Solomon sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar he had built for the LORD, burning incense before the LORD along with them, and so fulfilled the temple obligations.25Three times a year Solomon used to offer up burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar that he built to the LORD, making offerings with it before the LORD. So he finished the house.25Now three times in a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to the LORD, burning incense with them on the altar which was before the LORD. So he finished the house.25And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the LORD, and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before the LORD. So he finished the house.25Three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar he had built for the LORD, and he burned incense with them in the LORD's presence. So he completed the temple.
26King Solomon also built ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath in Edom, on the shore of the Red Sea.26King Solomon built a fleet of ships at Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.26King Solomon also built a fleet of ships in Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.26And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Eziongeber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the land of Edom.26King Solomon put together a fleet of ships at Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea in the land of Edom.
27And Hiram sent his men--sailors who knew the sea--to serve in the fleet with Solomon's men.27And Hiram sent with the fleet his servants, seamen who were familiar with the sea, together with the servants of Solomon.27And Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, sailors who knew the sea, along with the servants of Solomon.27And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.27With the fleet, Hiram sent his servants, experienced seamen, along with Solomon's servants.
28They sailed to Ophir and brought back 420 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.28And they went to Ophir and brought from there gold, 420 talents, and they brought it to King Solomon.28They went to Ophir and took four hundred and twenty talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon.28And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.28They went to Ophir and acquired gold there--16 tons--and delivered it to Solomon.
