2 Beloved, I pray that in every way you may prosper and enjoy good health, as your soul also prospers. Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.
3 For I was overjoyed when the brothers came and testified about your devotion to the truth, in which you continue to walk. For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. For I was overjoyed when brothers came and testified to your truth, <i>that is,</i> how you are walking in truth. It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. 5 Beloved, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, and especially since they are strangers to you. Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers; Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brothers <i>and sisters,</i> and especially <i>when they are</i> strangers; Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you.
6 They have testified to the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well: and they have testified to your love before the church. 10 So if I come, I will call attention to his malicious slander against us. And unsatisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers and forbids those who want to do so, even putting them out of the church. So if I come, I will bring up what he is doing, talking wicked nonsense against us. And not content with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers, and also stops those who want to and puts them out of the church. Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth <i>them</i> out of the church. For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with malicious words; and not satisfied with this, he himself does not receive the brothers either, and he forbids those who want <i>to do so</i> and puts <i>them</i> out of the church. So when I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, spreading malicious nonsense about us. Not satisfied with that, he even refuses to welcome other believers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.
11 Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God. Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God. Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does what is good is of God; the one who does what is evil has not seen God. Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
12 Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself. We also testify for him, and you know that our testimony is true. 14 Instead, I hope to see you soon and speak with you face to face. Peace to you. The friends here send you greetings. Greet each of our friends there by name.
