A Call to Maturity

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,1Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,1Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,1Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,1Therefore, leaving the elementary message about the Messiah, let us go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, faith in God,

And God permitting, we will do so.3And this we will do if God permits.3And this we will do, if God permits.3And this will we do, if God permit.3And we will do this if God permits.
It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,4For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit,4For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,4For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,4For it is impossible to renew to repentance those who were once enlightened, who tasted the heavenly gift, became companions with the Holy Spirit,

who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age5and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come,5and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,5And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,5tasted God's good word and the powers of the coming age,
and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.6and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.6and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.6If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.6and who have fallen away, because, to their own harm, they are recrucifying the Son of God and holding Him up to contempt.
Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God.7For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God.7For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;7For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:7For ground that has drunk the rain that has often fallen on it and that produces vegetation useful to those it is cultivated for receives a blessing from God.
But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.8But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.8but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned.8But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.8But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is worthless and about to be cursed, and will be burned at the end.
Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are convinced of better things in your case--the things that have to do with salvation.9Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation.9But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way.9But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.9Even though we are speaking this way, dear friends, in your case we are confident of the better things connected with salvation.

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.10For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.10For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints.10For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.10For God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you showed for His name when you served the saints--and you continue to serve them.
We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized.11And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end,11And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end,11And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:11Now we want each of you to demonstrate the same diligence for the final realization of your hope,
We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.12so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.12so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.12That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.12so that you won't become lazy but will be imitators of those who inherit the promises through faith and perseverance.

God's Promise is Certain

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself,13For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself,13For when God made the promise to Abraham, since He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself,13For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,13For when God made a promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself:
saying, "I will surely bless you and give you many descendants."14saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.”14saying, "I WILL SURELY BLESS YOU AND I WILL SURELY MULTIPLY YOU."14Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.14I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply you.
And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.15And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.15And so, having patiently waited, he obtained the promise.15And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.15And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham obtained the promise.
People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument.16For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation.16For men swear by one greater than themselves, and with them an oath given as confirmation is an end of every dispute.16For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.16For men swear by something greater than themselves, and for them a confirming oath ends every dispute.

Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.17So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath,17In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath,17Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:17Because God wanted to show His unchangeable purpose even more clearly to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath,
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.18so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.18so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.18That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:18so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,19We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,19This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil,19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;19We have this hope as an anchor for our lives, safe and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.
where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.20where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.20where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.20Jesus has entered there on our behalf as a forerunner, because He has become a high priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.
