God Calls Cyrus

(Zechariah 9:14-17)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
"This is what the LORD says to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut:1Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped, to subdue nations before him and to loose the belts of kings, to open doors before him that gates may not be closed:1Thus says the LORD to Cyrus His anointed, Whom I have taken by the right hand, To subdue nations before him And to loose the loins of kings; To open doors before him so that gates will not be shut:1Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;1The LORD says this to Cyrus, His anointed, whose right hand I have grasped to subdue nations before him, to disarm kings, to open the doors before him and the gates will not be shut:"
I will go before you and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of iron.2“I will go before you and level the exalted places, I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron,2"I will go before you and make the rough places smooth; I will shatter the doors of bronze and cut through their iron bars.2I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:2I will go before you and level the uneven places; I will shatter the bronze doors and cut the iron bars in two.
I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.3I will give you the treasures of darkness and the hoards in secret places, that you may know that it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, who call you by your name.3"I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden wealth of secret places, So that you may know that it is I, The LORD, the God of Israel, who calls you by your name.3And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.3I will give you the treasures of darkness and riches from secret places, so that you may know that I, Yahweh, the God of Israel call you by your name.
For the sake of Jacob my servant, of Israel my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor, though you do not acknowledge me.4For the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my chosen, I call you by your name, I name you, though you do not know me.4"For the sake of Jacob My servant, And Israel My chosen one, I have also called you by your name; I have given you a title of honor Though you have not known Me.4For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.4I call you by your name, because of Jacob My servant and Israel My chosen one. I give a name to you, though you do not know Me.

I am the LORD, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me,5I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me,5"I am the LORD, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God. I will gird you, though you have not known Me;5I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:5I am Yahweh, and there is no other; there is no God but Me. I will strengthen you, though you do not know Me,
so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the LORD, and there is no other.6that people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am the LORD, and there is no other.6That men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun That there is no one besides Me. I am the LORD, and there is no other,6That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.6so that all may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is no one but Me. I am Yahweh, and there is no other.
I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.7I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity; I am the LORD, who does all these things.7The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the LORD who does all these.7I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.7I form light and create darkness, I make success and create disaster; I, Yahweh, do all these things."
"You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the LORD, have created it.8“Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation and righteousness may bear fruit; let the earth cause them both to sprout; I the LORD have created it.8"Drip down, O heavens, from above, And let the clouds pour down righteousness; Let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit, And righteousness spring up with it. I, the LORD, have created it.8Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.8Heavens, sprinkle from above, and let the skies shower righteousness. Let the earth open up so that salvation will sprout and righteousness will spring up with it. I, Yahweh, have created it."
"Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say, 'The potter has no hands'?9“Woe to him who strives with him who formed him, a pot among earthen pots! Does the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ or ‘Your work has no handles’?9"Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker-- An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the potter, 'What are you doing?' Or the thing you are making say, 'He has no hands '?9Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?9Woe to the one who argues with his Maker-- one clay pot among many. Does clay say to the one forming it, What are you making? Or does your work say, He has no hands?
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
Woe to the one who says to a father, 'What have you begotten?' or to a mother, 'What have you brought to birth?'10Woe to him who says to a father, ‘What are you begetting?’ or to a woman, ‘With what are you in labor?’”10"Woe to him who says to a father, 'What are you begetting?' Or to a woman, 'To what are you giving birth?'"10Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?10How absurd is the one who says to his father, What are you fathering?' or to his mother, What are you giving birth to?'"
"This is what the LORD says-- the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker: Concerning things to come, do you question me about my children, or give me orders about the work of my hands?11Thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and the one who formed him: “Ask me of things to come; will you command me concerning my children and the work of my hands?11Thus says the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: "Ask Me about the things to come concerning My sons, And you shall commit to Me the work of My hands.11Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.11This is what the LORD, the Holy One of Israel and its Maker, says:" Ask Me what is to happen to My sons, and instruct Me about the work of My hands.
It is I who made the earth and created mankind on it. My own hands stretched out the heavens; I marshaled their starry hosts.12I made the earth and created man on it; it was my hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host.12"It is I who made the earth, and created man upon it. I stretched out the heavens with My hands And I ordained all their host.12I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.12I made the earth, and created man on it. It was My hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host.
I will raise up Cyrus in my righteousness: I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild my city and set my exiles free, but not for a price or reward, says the LORD Almighty."13I have stirred him up in righteousness, and I will make all his ways level; he shall build my city and set my exiles free, not for price or reward,” says the LORD of hosts.13"I have aroused him in righteousness And I will make all his ways smooth; He will build My city and will let My exiles go free, Without any payment or reward," says the LORD of hosts.13I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.13I have raised him up in righteousness, and will level all roads for him. He will rebuild My city, and set My exiles free, not for a price or a bribe," says the LORD of Hosts.

The Lord will Save

This is what the LORD says: "The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush, and those tall Sabeans-- they will come over to you and will be yours; they will trudge behind you, coming over to you in chains. They will bow down before you and plead with you, saying, 'Surely God is with you, and there is no other; there is no other god.'"14Thus says the LORD: “The wealth of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush, and the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over to you and be yours; they shall follow you; they shall come over in chains and bow down to you. They will plead with you, saying: ‘Surely God is in you, and there is no other, no god besides him.’”14Thus says the LORD, "The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush And the Sabeans, men of stature, Will come over to you and will be yours; They will walk behind you, they will come over in chains And will bow down to you; They will make supplication to you: 'Surely, God is with you, and there is none else, No other God.'"14Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.14This is what the LORD says: The products of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush and the Sabeans, men of stature, will come over to you and will be yours; they will follow you, they will come over in chains and bow down to you. They will confess to you: God is indeed with you, and there is no other; there is no other God.
Truly you are a God who has been hiding himself, the God and Savior of Israel.15Truly, you are a God who hides himself, O God of Israel, the Savior.15Truly, You are a God who hides Himself, O God of Israel, Savior!15Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.15Yes, You are a God who hides Himself, God of Israel, Savior.
All the makers of idols will be put to shame and disgraced; they will go off into disgrace together.16All of them are put to shame and confounded; the makers of idols go in confusion together.16They will be put to shame and even humiliated, all of them; The manufacturers of idols will go away together in humiliation.16They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.16All of them are put to shame, even humiliated; the makers of idols go in humiliation together.
But Israel will be saved by the LORD with an everlasting salvation; you will never be put to shame or disgraced, to ages everlasting.17But Israel is saved by the LORD with everlasting salvation; you shall not be put to shame or confounded to all eternity.17Israel has been saved by the LORD With an everlasting salvation; You will not be put to shame or humiliated To all eternity.17But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.17Israel will be saved by the LORD with an everlasting salvation; you will not be put to shame or humiliated for all eternity.

For this is what the LORD says-- he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited-- he says: "I am the LORD, and there is no other.18For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!): “I am the LORD, and there is no other.18For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited), "I am the LORD, and there is none else.18For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.18For this is what the LORD says-- God is the Creator of the heavens. He formed the earth and made it. He established it; He did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited--" I am Yahweh, and there is no other.
I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right.19I did not speak in secret, in a land of darkness; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, ‘Seek me in vain.’ I the LORD speak the truth; I declare what is right.19"I have not spoken in secret, In some dark land; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, 'Seek Me in a waste place'; I, the LORD, speak righteousness, Declaring things that are upright.19I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.19I have not spoken in secret, somewhere in a land of darkness. I did not say to the descendants of Jacob: Seek Me in a wasteland. I, Yahweh, speak truthfully; I say what is right."
"Gather together and come; assemble, you fugitives from the nations. Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save.20“Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that cannot save.20"Gather yourselves and come; Draw near together, you fugitives of the nations; They have no knowledge, Who carry about their wooden idol And pray to a god who cannot save.20Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.20Come, gather together, and draw near, you fugitives of the nations. Those who carry their wooden idols, and pray to a god who cannot save, have no knowledge.
Declare what is to be, present it-- let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.21Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me.21"Declare and set forth your case; Indeed, let them consult together. Who has announced this from of old? Who has long since declared it? Is it not I, the LORD? And there is no other God besides Me, A righteous God and a Savior; There is none except Me.21Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.21Speak up and present your case-- yes, let them take counsel together. Who predicted this long ago? Who announced it from ancient times? Was it not I, Yahweh? There is no other God but Me, a righteous God and Savior; there is no one except Me.
"Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.22“Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other.22"Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth; For I am God, and there is no other.22Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.22Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth. For I am God, and there is no other.

By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear.23By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.’23"I have sworn by Myself, The word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness And will not turn back, That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.23I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.23By Myself I have sworn; Truth has gone from My mouth, a word that will not be revoked: Every knee will bow to Me, every tongue will swear allegiance.
They will say of me, 'In the LORD alone are deliverance and strength.'" All who have raged against him will come to him and be put to shame.24“Only in the LORD, it shall be said of me, are righteousness and strength; to him shall come and be ashamed all who were incensed against him.24"They will say of Me, 'Only in the LORD are righteousness and strength.' Men will come to Him, And all who were angry at Him will be put to shame.24Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.24It will be said to Me: Righteousness and strength is only in the LORD." All who are enraged against Him will come to Him and be put to shame.
But all the descendants of Israel will find deliverance in the LORD and will make their boast in him.25In the LORD all the offspring of Israel shall be justified and shall glory.”25"In the LORD all the offspring of Israel Will be justified and will glory."25In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.25All the descendants of Israel will be justified and find glory through the LORD.
