The Parable of the Ten Virgins

1Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom: and five of them were wise, 2and five were foolish. 3The foolish ones took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4but the wise took oil in their vessels as well as in their lamps. 5Now while the bridegroom stayed, they were all drowsy and fell asleep: 6and in the middle of the night there was a cry, The bridegroom is coming, go out to meet him. 7Then all the virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps: 8and the foolish ones said to the wise, Give us of your oil, for our lamps are going out: 9but the wise answered them, saying, Least there should not be enough for us and you, go rather to them that sell it, and buy for yourselves. 10And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and they that were ready went in with him to the wedding-feast, and then the door was shut. 11Afterwards came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us: 12but he answered them, Verily I declare unto you, I do not know you. 13Watch therefore, for ye know not the day, nor the season in which the Son of man cometh.

The Parable of the Talents
(Luke 19:11–27)

14For as a man, who was going to travel abroad, called his servants, and delivered to them his stock: and to one he gave five talents, 15to another two, and to another one; to each according to his ability: and then he took his journey. 16Now he that had received the five talents, went and traded with them, and gained other five talents: 17and likewise he that had the two, he also gained two more: 18but he who had received the one, went and digged in the earth, and hid his master's money:

19and after some time the lord of those servants cometh and settleth his account with them. 20And he who had received the five talents came and brought to him five talents more, saying, Sir, thou deliveredst to me five talents, behold I have gained other five talents to them: 21and his lord said to him, Well done, my good and trusty servant, thou hast been faithful in a few things, I will set thee over many, enter into thy master's joy.

22And he also who had received the two talents came to him and said, Lord, thou deliveredst to me two talents, behold I have gained two other talents with them: 23his lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful in a few things, I will set thee over many, enter into the joy of thy lord.

24And he also who received the one talent came to him and said, Sir, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou sowedst not, and gathering where thou hast not strewed; 25and I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the ground; behold, there is thine own:

26but his lord answered and said to him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strewed; 27thou oughtest then to have put my money to the bankers, and when I came I should have received my own with interest. 28Take ye therefore the talent from him, and give it to him that hath the ten talents;

29(for to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound; but from him that hath not, even what he hath, or seemeth to have, shall be taken away:) 30and cast out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness, where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The Sheep and the Goats

31So when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon his glorious throne: 32and all nations shall be assembled before Him; and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides the sheep from the goats: 33and He shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left.

34Then will the king say to them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35for I was famishing, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; 36I was naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye took care of me; I was in prison, and ye visited me. 37Then will the righteous answer Him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38and when did we see thee a stranger, and took thee in? 39or naked, and clothed thee? and when did we see thee sick, or in prison, and visited thee? 40And the king replying will say unto them, Verily I declare unto you, inasmuch as ye did it to one of the lest of these my brethren, ye did it to me.

41Then will He say also to those on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42for I was famishing, and ye gave me nothing to eat; I was a-thirst, and ye gave me no drink; 43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye took no care of me. 44Then will they also answer Him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee famishing, or a-thirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not relieve thee? 45Then will He reply to them, saying, Verily I tell you, inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the lest of these, ye did it not to me. 46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life everlasting.
