Punishment Brings No Repentance
1 שִׁמְע֞וּ (Hear) הַדָּבָ֣ר (the word), הַזֶּ֗ה (this)
פָּר֤וֹת (O cows) הַבָּשָׁן֙ (of Bashan), אֲשֶׁר֙ (you who are) בְּהַ֣ר (on the mountain) שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן (of Samaria),
הָעֹשְׁק֣וֹת (those oppressing) דַּלִּ֔ים (the poor),
הָרֹצְצ֖וֹת (those crushing) אֶבְיוֹנִ֑ים (the needy),
הָאֹמְרֹ֥ת (those saying) לַאֲדֹֽנֵיהֶ֖ם (to their lords),
הָבִ֥יאָה (Bring in), וְנִשְׁתֶּֽה׃ (and let us drink).
2 נִשְׁבַּ֨ע (Has sworn) אֲדֹנָ֤י (the Lord) יְהוִה֙ (YHWH) בְּקָדְשׁ֔וֹ (by His holiness), כִּ֛י (that),
הִנֵּ֥ה (Behold), יָמִ֖ים (the days) בָּאִ֣ים (are coming) עֲלֵיכֶ֑ם (upon you⁺)
וְנִשָּׂ֤א (and He will lift up) אֶתְכֶם֙ (you⁺) בְּצִנּ֔וֹת (with hooks),
וְאַחֲרִיתְכֶ֖ן (and what is left of you⁺) בְּסִיר֥וֹת (with hooks) דּוּגָֽה׃ (for fishing).
3 וּפְרָצִ֥ים (And through the breaches), תֵּצֶ֖אנָה (you⁺ will go out)
אִשָּׁ֣ה (each woman) נֶגְדָּ֑הּ (straight ahead of her)
וְהִשְׁלַכְתֶּ֥נָה (and you⁺ will be cast out) הַהַרְמ֖וֹנָה (to the Harmon),
נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).
4 בֹּ֤אוּ (Go) בֵֽית־ (to Beth-) אֵל֙ (el), וּפִשְׁע֔וּ (and rebel);
הַגִּלְגָּ֖ל (at Gilgal) הַרְבּ֣וּ (multiply) לִפְשֹׁ֑עַ (rebelling);
וְהָבִ֤יאוּ (and bring) לַבֹּ֙קֶר֙ (in the morning), זִבְחֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ sacrifices)
לִשְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת (every three) יָמִ֖ים (days) מַעְשְׂרֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ tithes).
5 וְקַטֵּ֤ר (And offer a sacrifice of) מֵֽחָמֵץ֙ (with leaven), תּוֹדָ֔ה (of thanksgiving)
וְקִרְא֥וּ (and call out) נְדָב֖וֹת (the freewill offerings); הַשְׁמִ֑יעוּ (proclaim that)
כִּ֣י (for) כֵ֤ן (this) אֲהַבְתֶּם֙ (you⁺ love) בְּנֵ֣י (O sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel),
נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֥י (of the Lord) יְהוִֽה׃ (YHWH).
6 וְגַם־ (Also) אֲנִי֩ (I) נָתַ֨תִּי (have given) לָכֶ֜ם (to you⁺) נִקְי֤וֹן (cleanness) שִׁנַּ֙יִם֙ (of teeth) בְּכָל־ (in all) עָ֣רֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ cities),
וְחֹ֣סֶר (and lack) לֶ֔חֶם (of bread) בְּכֹ֖ל (in all) מְקוֹמֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם (your⁺ stations),
וְלֹֽא־ (and not) שַׁבְתֶּ֥ם (have you⁺ returned) עָדַ֖י (to Me)
נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).
7 וְגַ֣ם (Also) אָנֹכִי֩ (I) מָנַ֨עְתִּי (have withheld) מִכֶּ֜ם (from you⁺) אֶת־ (-) הַגֶּ֗שֶׁם (the rain)
בְּע֨וֹד (while still were) שְׁלֹשָׁ֤ה (three) חֳדָשִׁים֙ (months remained) לַקָּצִ֔יר (until the harvest).
וְהִמְטַרְתִּי֙ (And I made it rain) עַל־ (on) עִ֣יר (city), אֶחָ֔ת (one)
וְעַל־ (and on) עִ֥יר (city); אַחַ֖ת (one) לֹ֣א (not) אַמְטִ֑יר (did I send rain)
חֶלְקָ֤ה (the portion) אַחַת֙ (one) תִּמָּטֵ֔ר (was rained on),
וְחֶלְקָ֛ה (and the portion) אֲשֶֽׁר־ (where) לֹֽא־ (not) תַמְטִ֥יר (it did rain) עָלֶ֖יהָ (upon it) תִּיבָֽשׁ׃ (withered).
8 וְנָע֡וּ (And they would stagger off) שְׁתַּיִם֩ (two) שָׁלֹ֨שׁ (or three) עָרִ֜ים (cities) אֶל־ (to) עִ֥יר (a city), אַחַ֛ת (one)
לִשְׁתּ֥וֹת (to drink) מַ֖יִם (water);
וְלֹ֣א (not) יִשְׂבָּ֑עוּ (were they satisfied);
וְלֹֽא־ (and still not) שַׁבְתֶּ֥ם (have you⁺ returned) עָדַ֖י (to Me)
נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).
9 הִכֵּ֣יתִי (I struck) אֶתְכֶם֮ (you⁺) בַּשִּׁדָּפ֣וֹן (with blight) וּבַיֵּרָקוֹן֒ (and with mildew);
הַרְבּ֨וֹת (in your growing), גַּנּוֹתֵיכֶ֧ם (your⁺ gardens) וְכַרְמֵיכֶ֛ם (and your⁺ vineyards)
וּתְאֵנֵיכֶ֥ם (and your⁺ fig trees) וְזֵיתֵיכֶ֖ם (and your⁺ olive trees)
יֹאכַ֣ל (devoured) הַגָּזָ֑ם (the locust)
וְלֹֽא־ (and not) שַׁבְתֶּ֥ם (you⁺ have returned) עָדַ֖י (to Me)
נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ס (of YHWH).
10 שִׁלַּ֨חְתִּי (I sent) בָכֶ֥ם (among you⁺) דֶּ֙בֶר֙ (a plague)
בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ (in the manner) מִצְרַ֔יִם (of Egypt);
הָרַ֤גְתִּי (I killed) בַחֶ֙רֶב֙ (with the sword), בַּח֣וּרֵיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ young men)
עִ֖ם (along with) שְׁבִ֣י (the captivity) סֽוּסֵיכֶ֑ם (of your⁺ horses);
וָאַעֲלֶ֞ה (and I even made come up) בְּאֹ֤שׁ (the stench) מַחֲנֵיכֶם֙ (of your⁺ camps) וּֽבְאַפְּכֶ֔ם (to your⁺ nostrils);
וְלֹֽא־ (and not) שַׁבְתֶּ֥ם (have you⁺ returned) עָדַ֖י (to Me)
נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ (of YHWH).
11 הָפַ֣כְתִּי (I overthrew) בָכֶ֗ם (some among you⁺)
כְּמַהְפֵּכַ֤ת (like the overthrow) אֱלֹהִים֙ (by God) אֶת־ (-) סְדֹ֣ם (of Sodom) וְאֶת־ (and) עֲמֹרָ֔ה (Gomorrah),
וַתִּהְי֕וּ (and you⁺ were) כְּא֖וּד (like a firebrand) מֻצָּ֣ל (delivered) מִשְׂרֵפָ֑ה (from the burning);
וְלֹֽא־ (and not) שַׁבְתֶּ֥ם (have you⁺ returned) עָדַ֖י (to Me)
נְאֻם־ (a declaration) יְהוָֽה׃ס (of YHWH).
12 לָכֵ֕ן (Therefore) כֹּ֥ה (this is what) אֶעֱשֶׂה־ (I will do)
לְּךָ֖ (to you) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (O Israel);
עֵ֚קֶב (because) כִּֽי־ (-) זֹ֣את (this) אֶֽעֱשֶׂה־ (I am doing) לָּ֔ךְ (to you)
הִכּ֥וֹן (prepare) לִקְרַאת־ (to meet) אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ (your God), יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (O Israel).
13 כִּ֡י (For), הִנֵּה֩ (behold), יוֹצֵ֨ר (the One forming) הָרִ֜ים (mountains),
וּבֹרֵ֣א (and creating) ר֗וּחַ (the wind),
וּמַגִּ֤יד (and the One declaring) לְאָדָם֙ (to man) מַה־ (what) שֵּׂח֔וֹ (His thoughts),
עֹשֵׂ֥ה (and the One making) שַׁ֙חַר֙ (the morning) עֵיפָ֔ה (darkness),
וְדֹרֵ֖ךְ (and the One treading) עַל־ (on) בָּ֣מֳתֵי (the high places) אָ֑רֶץ (of the earth),
יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH), אֱלֹהֵֽי־ (God) צְבָא֖וֹת (of Hosts), שְׁמֽוֹ׃ס (is His name).
