A Message to Cush

1  ה֥וֹי (Woe) אֶ֖רֶץ (to the land) צִלְצַ֣ל (of whirring) כְּנָפָ֑יִם (wings),

אֲשֶׁ֥ר (which is) מֵעֵ֖בֶר (beyond) לְנַֽהֲרֵי־ (the rivers) כֽוּשׁ׃ (of Cush),

2  הַשֹּׁלֵ֨חַ (that is sending) בַּיָּ֜ם (by sea) צִירִ֗ים (envoys),

וּבִכְלֵי־ (and in vessels) גֹמֶא֮ (of papyrus) עַל־ (over) פְּנֵי־ (the face) מַיִם֒ (of the waters):

לְכ֣וּ׀ (Go), מַלְאָכִ֣ים (messengers) קַלִּ֗ים (swift),

אֶל־ (to) גּוֹי֙ (a nation) מְמֻשָּׁ֣ךְ (tall) וּמוֹרָ֔ט (and smooth),

אֶל־ (to) עַ֥ם (a people) נוֹרָ֖א (feared) מִן־ (from) ה֣וּא (that) וָהָ֑לְאָה (and onward),

גּ֚וֹי (a nation) קַו־ (of strength) קָ֣ו (-) וּמְבוּסָ֔ה (and trampling),

אֲשֶׁר־ (whose) בָּזְא֥וּ (divide) נְהָרִ֖ים (the rivers) אַרְצֽוֹ׃ (land).

3  כָּל־ (All) יֹשְׁבֵ֥י (you dwellers) תֵבֵ֖ל (of the world)

וְשֹׁ֣כְנֵי (and dwellers) אָ֑רֶץ (of the earth),

כִּנְשֹׂא־ (at the lifting) נֵ֤ס (of a banner) הָרִים֙ (in the mountains),

תִּרְא֔וּ (you⁺ will see it)

וְכִתְקֹ֥עַ (and at the blowing) שׁוֹפָ֖ר (of a shofar),

תִּשְׁמָֽעוּ׃ס (you⁺ will hear it).

4  כִּי֩ (For) כֹ֨ה (thus) אָמַ֤ר (has said) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֵלַ֔י (to me):

אֶשְׁקוֹטָה (I will take My rest), וְאַבִּ֣יטָה (and I will look on) בִמְכוֹנִ֑י (from My settled place),

כְּחֹ֥ם (like heat) צַח֙ (shimmering) עֲלֵי־ (upon) א֔וֹר (the light),

כְּעָ֥ב (like a cloud) טַ֖ל (of dew) בְּחֹ֥ם (in the heat) קָצִֽיר׃ (of harvest).

5  כִּֽי־ (For) לִפְנֵ֤י (before the face of) קָצִיר֙ (the harvest) כְּתָם־ (at the filling) פֶּ֔רַח (of the bud)

וּבֹ֥סֶר (and a grape) גֹּמֵ֖ל (ripening) יִֽהְיֶ֣ה (is) נִצָּ֑ה (the blossom),

וְכָרַ֤ת (then He will cut off) הַזַּלְזַלִּים֙ (the tendrils) בַּמַּזְמֵר֔וֹת (with pruning hooks)

וְאֶת־ (and) הַנְּטִישׁ֖וֹת (the branches) הֵסִ֥יר (He will turn aside) הֵתַֽז׃ (and strike off).

6  יֵעָזְב֤וּ (They will be left behind) יַחְדָּו֙ (together) לְעֵ֣יט (for the birds of prey) הָרִ֔ים (of the mountains)

וּֽלְבֶהֱמַ֖ת (and for the beasts) הָאָ֑רֶץ (of the earth),

וְקָ֤ץ (and will feed in summer) עָלָיו֙ (on them) הָעַ֔יִט (the bird of prey),

וְכָל־ (and all) בֶּהֱמַ֥ת (the beasts) הָאָ֖רֶץ (of the earth) עָלָ֥יו (on them) תֶּחֱרָֽף׃ (will feed in winter).

7  בָּעֵת֩ (At the time) הַהִ֨יא (that) יֽוּבַל־ (will be brought) שַׁ֜י (a tribute-gift) לַיהוָ֣ה (to YHWH of) צְבָא֗וֹת (Hosts)

עַ֚ם (from a people) מְמֻשָּׁ֣ךְ (tall) וּמוֹרָ֔ט (and smooth),

וּמֵעַ֥ם (and from a people) נוֹרָ֖א (feared) מִן־ (from) ה֣וּא (from) וָהָ֑לְאָה (afar),

גּ֣וֹי׀ (a nation) קַו־ (of strength) קָ֣ו (-) וּמְבוּסָ֗ה (and treading down),

אֲשֶׁ֨ר (for whom) בָּזְא֤וּ (divides) נְהָרִים֙ (the rivers) אַרְצ֔וֹ (its land)

אֶל־ (to) מְק֛וֹם (the place) שֵׁם־ (of the name) יְהוָ֥ה (of YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts), הַר־ (to Mount) צִיּֽוֹן׃ס (Zion).
