Praise to the Creator
(Psalm 148:1–14)

1Give a ringing cry, O righteous ones, in YHWH!

Beautiful is the praise for the upright.

2Give thanks to YHWH with the harp;

with an instrument of ten strings, make music to Him.

3Sing to Him a new song;

play skillfully with a shout of joy.

4For straight is the word of YHWH,

and all His work is trustworthy.

5He loves righteousness and justice;

the earth is full of the loving devotion of YHWH.

6By the word of YHWH the heavens were made,

and by the breath of His mouth all their host.

7He gathers together the waters of the sea as a heap;

He lays up the depths in storehouses.

8Let them be afraid of YHWH, all the earth;

let all those dwelling in the world stand in awe of Him!

9For He has spoken, and it came to pass;

He has commanded, and it stood firm.

10YHWH breaks apart the counsel of nations;

He has diasllowed the plans of the peoples.

11The counsel of YHWH stands forever,

the plans of His heart from generation and to generation.

12Blessed is the nation for whom YHWH is its God,

the people He has chosen as the inheritance for Him.

13From the heavens, YHWH looks;

He sees all the sons of man.

14From the fixed place of His sitting,

He gazes toward all those dwelling on the earth.

15He fashions their hearts together;

He attends to all their works.

16No king is saved by the abundance of his strength;

a mighty man is not delivered by the abundance of his power.

17His horse is a false thing for salvation,

and in the abundance of its strength it cannot provide escape.

18Behold, the eye of YHWH is toward those who fear Him,

to those waiting on His loving devotion,

19to snatch their soul from death,

and to keep them alive in famine.

20Our soul waits for YHWH—

He is our help and our shield.

21For in Him our heart shall rejoice,

because we have trusted in His holy Name.

22May Your loving devotion, O YHWH, be upon us,

as we do wait for You.
