For the laws of the people are vain: for the works of the hand of the workman hath cut a tree out of the forest with an axe.
Jeremiah 10:8 They shall be all proved together to be senseless and foolish: the doctrine of their vanity is wood.

…2Thus saith the Lord: Learn not according to the ways of the Gentiles: and be not afraid of the signs of heaven, which the heathens fear: 3For the laws of the people are vain: for the works of the hand of the workman hath cut a tree out of the forest with an axe.4He hath decked it with silver and gold: he hath put it together with nails and hammers, that it may not fall asunder.…
And you see and hear that this Paul, by persuasion hath drawn away a great multitude, not only of Ephesus, but almost of all Asia, saying: they are not gods which are made by hands.
The idols of the Gentiles are silver and gold, the works of the hands of men.
The makers of idols are all of them nothing, and their best beloved things shall not profit them. They are their witnesses, that they do not see, nor understand, that they may be ashamed.
The smith hath wrought with his file, with coals, and with hammers he hath formed it, and hath wrought with the strength of his arm: he shall hunger and faint, he shall drink no water, and shall be weary.
And I will pronounce my judgments against them, touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have sacrificed to strange gods, and have adored the work of their own hands.
Are there any among the graven things of the Gentiles that can send rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou the Lord our God, whom we have looked for? for thou hast made all these things.
Woe to him that saith to wood: Awake: to the dumb stone: Arise: can it teach? Behold, it is laid over with gold, and silver, and there is no spirit in the bowels thereof.
