This is an oracle concerning Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz received:
He sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the scribe, and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz
So I bought a loincloth as the LORD instructed me, and I put it around my waist.
For every head is shaved and every beard is clipped; on every hand is a gash and around every waist is sackcloth.
Now you, son of man, take a brick, place it before you, and draw on it the city of Jerusalem.
Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Put on your turban and strap your sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips or eat the bread of mourners."
Your turbans will remain on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not mourn or weep, but you will waste away because of your sins and groan among yourselves.
Because of this I will lament and wail; I will walk barefoot and naked. I will howl like a jackal and mourn like an ostrich.
And on that day every prophet who prophesies will be ashamed of his vision, and he will not put on a hairy cloak in order to deceive.
