and for the land of my people, overgrown with thorns and briers--even for every house of merriment in this city of revelry.

For the fortified city will be deserted, a homestead abandoned and forsaken like a wilderness. There the calves will graze, and there they will lie down and strip its branches bare.
Her towers will be overgrown with thorns, her fortresses with thistles and briers. She will become a haunt for jackals, an abode for ostriches.
Instead of the thornbush, a cypress will grow, and instead of the brier, a myrtle will spring up; they will make a name for the LORD as an everlasting sign, never to be destroyed."
For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses of this city and the palaces of the kings of Judah that have been torn down for defense against the siege ramps and the sword:
There at Riblah in the land of Hamath, The king of Babylon struck them down and put them to death. So Judah was taken into exile, away from her land.
Otherwise, I will strip her naked and expose her like the day of her birth. I will make her like a desert and turn her into a parched land, and I will let her die of thirst.
The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed; thorns and thistles will grow over their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, "Cover us!" and to the hills, "Fall on us!"
