Berean Study BibleEnglish Standard Version
Then the LORD said to Moses,1And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
“Tell Aaron and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings that the Israelites have consecrated to Me, so that they do not profane My holy name. I am the LORD.2“Speak to Aaron and his sons so that they abstain from the holy things of the people of Israel, which they dedicate to me, so that they do not profane my holy name: I am the LORD.
Tell them that for the generations to come, if any of their descendants in a state of uncleanness approaches the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the LORD, that person must be cut off from My presence. I am the LORD.3Say to them, ‘If any one of all your offspring throughout your generations approaches the holy things that the people of Israel dedicate to the LORD, while he has an uncleanness, that person shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD.
If a descendant of Aaron has a skin disease or a discharge, he may not eat the sacred offerings until he is clean. Whoever touches anything defiled by a corpse or by a man who has an emission of semen,4None of the offspring of Aaron who has a leprous disease or a discharge may eat of the holy things until he is clean. Whoever touches anything that is unclean through contact with the dead or a man who has had an emission of semen,
or whoever touches a crawling creature or a person that makes him unclean, whatever the uncleanness may be—5and whoever touches a swarming thing by which he may be made unclean or a person from whom he may take uncleanness, whatever his uncleanness may be—
the man who touches any of these will remain unclean until evening. He must not eat from the sacred offerings unless he has bathed himself with water.6the person who touches such a thing shall be unclean until the evening and shall not eat of the holy things unless he has bathed his body in water.
When the sun has set, he will become clean, and then he may eat from the sacred offerings, for they are his food.7When the sun goes down he shall be clean, and afterward he may eat of the holy things, because they are his food.
He must not eat anything found dead or torn by wild animals, which would make him unclean. I am the LORD.8He shall not eat what dies of itself or is torn by beasts, and so make himself unclean by it: I am the LORD.’
The priests must keep My charge, lest they bear the guilt and die because they profane it. I am the LORD who sanctifies them.9They shall therefore keep my charge, lest they bear sin for it and die thereby when they profane it: I am the LORD who sanctifies them.
No one outside a priest’s family may eat the sacred offering, nor may the guest of a priest or his hired hand eat it.10“A lay person shall not eat of a holy thing; no foreign guest of the priest or hired worker shall eat of a holy thing,
But if a priest buys a slave with his own money, or if a slave is born in his household, that slave may eat his food.11but if a priest buys a slave as his property for money, the slave may eat of it, and anyone born in his house may eat of his food.
If the priest’s daughter is married to a man other than a priest, she is not to eat of the sacred contributions.12If a priest’s daughter marries a layman, she shall not eat of the contribution of the holy things.
But if a priest’s daughter with no children becomes widowed or divorced and returns to her father’s house, she may share her father’s food as in her youth. But no outsider may share it.13But if a priest’s daughter is widowed or divorced and has no child and returns to her father’s house, as in her youth, she may eat of her father’s food; yet no lay person shall eat of it.
If anyone eats a sacred offering in error, he must add a fifth to its value and give the sacred offering to the priest.14And if anyone eats of a holy thing unintentionally, he shall add the fifth of its value to it and give the holy thing to the priest.
The priests must not profane the sacred offerings that the Israelites present to the LORD15They shall not profane the holy things of the people of Israel, which they contribute to the LORD,
by allowing the people to eat the sacred offerings and thus to bear the punishment for guilt. For I am the LORD who sanctifies them.”16and so cause them to bear iniquity and guilt, by eating their holy things: for I am the LORD who sanctifies them.”
Then the LORD said to Moses,17And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
“Speak to Aaron and his sons and all the Israelites and tell them, ‘Any man of the house of Israel or any foreign resident who presents a gift for a burnt offering to the LORD, whether to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering,18“Speak to Aaron and his sons and all the people of Israel and say to them, When any one of the house of Israel or of the sojourners in Israel presents a burnt offering as his offering, for any of their vows or freewill offerings that they offer to the LORD,
must offer an unblemished male from the cattle, sheep, or goats in order for it to be accepted on your behalf.19if it is to be accepted for you it shall be a male without blemish, of the bulls or the sheep or the goats.
You must not present anything with a defect, because it will not be accepted on your behalf.20You shall not offer anything that has a blemish, for it will not be acceptable for you.
When a man presents a peace offering to the LORD from the herd or flock to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering, it must be without blemish or defect to be acceptable.21And when anyone offers a sacrifice of peace offerings to the LORD to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering from the herd or from the flock, to be accepted it must be perfect; there shall be no blemish in it.
You are not to present to the LORD any animal that is blind, injured, or maimed, or anything with a running sore, a festering rash, or a scab; you must not put any of these on the altar as an offering made by fire to the LORD.22Animals blind or disabled or mutilated or having a discharge or an itch or scabs you shall not offer to the LORD or give them to the LORD as a food offering on the altar.
You may present as a freewill offering an ox or sheep that has a deformed or stunted limb, but it is not acceptable in fulfillment of a vow.23You may present a bull or a lamb that has a part too long or too short for a freewill offering, but for a vow offering it cannot be accepted.
You are not to present to the LORD an animal whose testicles are bruised, crushed, torn, or cut; you are not to sacrifice them in your land.24Any animal that has its testicles bruised or crushed or torn or cut you shall not offer to the LORD; you shall not do it within your land,
Neither you nor a foreigner shall present food to your God from any such animal. They will not be accepted on your behalf, because they are deformed and flawed.’ ”25neither shall you offer as the bread of your God any such animals gotten from a foreigner. Since there is a blemish in them, because of their mutilation, they will not be accepted for you.”
Then the LORD said to Moses,26And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
“When an ox, a sheep, or a goat is born, it must remain with its mother for seven days. From the eighth day on, it will be acceptable as an offering made by fire to the LORD.27“When an ox or sheep or goat is born, it shall remain seven days with its mother, and from the eighth day on it shall be acceptable as a food offering to the LORD.
But you must not slaughter an ox or a sheep on the same day as its young.28But you shall not kill an ox or a sheep and her young in one day.
When you sacrifice a thank offering to the LORD, offer it so that it may be acceptable on your behalf.29And when you sacrifice a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the LORD, you shall sacrifice it so that you may be accepted.
It must be eaten that same day. Do not leave any of it until morning. I am the LORD.30It shall be eaten on the same day; you shall leave none of it until morning: I am the LORD.
You are to keep My commandments and practice them. I am the LORD.31“So you shall keep my commandments and do them: I am the LORD.
You must not profane My holy name. I must be acknowledged as holy among the Israelites. I am the LORD who sanctifies you,32And you shall not profane my holy name, that I may be sanctified among the people of Israel. I am the LORD who sanctifies you,
who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD.”33who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I am the LORD.”
