Psalm 74
BSB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Berean Study BibleInternational Standard Version
A Maskil of Asaph. Why have You rejected us forever, O God? Why does Your anger smolder against the sheep of Your pasture?1Why, God? Have you rejected us forever? Your anger is burning against the sheep of your pasture.
Remember Your congregation, which You purchased long ago and redeemed as the tribe of Your inheritance—Mount Zion where You dwell.2Remember your community, whom you purchased long ago, the tribe whom you redeemed for your possession. Remember Mount Zion, where you live.
Turn Your steps to the everlasting ruins, to everything in the sanctuary the enemy has destroyed.3Hurry! Look at the permanent ruins— every calamity the enemy brought upon the Holy Place.
Your foes have roared within Your meeting place; they have unfurled their banners as signs,4Those who are opposing you roar where we were meeting with you; they unfurl their war banners as signs.
like men wielding axes in a thicket of trees5As one blazes a trail through a forest with an ax,
and smashing all the carvings with hatchets and picks.6now they're tearing down all its carved work with hatchets and hammers.
They have burned Your sanctuary to the ground; they have defiled the dwelling place of Your Name.7They burned your sanctuary to the ground, desecrating your dwelling place.
They said in their hearts, “We will crush them completely.” They burned down every place where God met us in the land.8They say to themselves, "We'll crush them completely;" They burned down all the meeting places of God in the land.
There are no signs for us to see. There is no longer any prophet. And none of us knows how long this will last.9We see no signs for us; there is no longer a prophet, and no one among us knows the future.
How long, O God, will the enemy taunt You? Will the foe revile Your name forever?10God, how long will the adversary scorn while the enemy despises your name endlessly?
Why do You withdraw Your strong right hand? Stretch it out to destroy them!11Why do you not withdraw your hand— your right hand—from your bosom and destroy them?
Yet God is my King from ancient times, working salvation on the earth.12But God is my king from ancient times, who brings acts of deliverance throughout the earth.
You divided the sea by Your strength; You smashed the heads of the dragons of the sea;13You split the sea by your own power. You shattered the heads of sea monsters in the water.
You crushed the heads of Leviathan; You fed him to the creatures of the desert.14You crushed the heads of Leviathan. You set it as food for desert creatures.
You broke open the fountain and the flood; You dried up the ever-flowing rivers.15You opened both the spring and the river; you dried up flowing rivers.
The day is Yours, and also the night; You established the moon and the sun.16Yours is the day, and yours is the night; you established the moon and the sun.
You set all the boundaries of the earth; You made the summer and winter.17You set all the boundaries of the earth; you made summer and winter.
Remember how the enemy has mocked You, O LORD, how a foolish people has spurned Your name.18Remember this: The enemy scorns the LORD and a foolish people despises your name.
Do not deliver the soul of Your dove to beasts; do not forget the lives of Your afflicted forever.19Don't hand over the life of your dove to beasts; do not continuously forget your afflicted ones.
Consider Your covenant, for haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land.20Pay attention to your covenant, for the dark regions of the earth are full of violence.
Do not let the oppressed retreat in shame; may the poor and needy praise Your name.21Don't let the oppressed return in humiliation. The poor and needy will praise your name.
Rise up, O God; defend Your cause! Remember how the fool mocks You all day long.22Get up, God, and prosecute your case— remember that you're being scorned by fools all day long.
Do not disregard the clamor of Your adversaries, the uproar of Your enemies that ascends continually.23Don't ignore the shout of those opposing you, The uproar of those who rebel against you continuously.
