Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God--1Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures--2which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures,
concerning his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was a descendant of David according to the flesh3concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh,
and was appointed to be the powerful Son of God according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection of the dead.4who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,
Through him we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the Gentiles,5through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for His name's sake,
including you who are also called by Jesus Christ.6among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;
To all who are in Rome, loved by God, called as saints. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.7to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you because the news of your faith is being reported in all the world.8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world.
God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in telling the good news about his Son--that I constantly mention you,9For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you,
always asking in my prayers that if it is somehow in God's will, I may now at last succeed in coming to you.10always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at last by the will of God I may succeed in coming to you.
For I want very much to see you, so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you,11For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established;
that is, to be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine.12that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine.
Now I don't want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I often planned to come to you (but was prevented until now) in order that I might have a fruitful ministry among you, just as I have had among the rest of the Gentiles.13I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that often I have planned to come to you (and have been prevented so far) so that I may obtain some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles.
I am obligated both to Greeks and barbarians, both to the wise and the foolish.14I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.
So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.15So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.17For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."
For God's wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth,18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them.19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse.20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
For though they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened.21For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Claiming to be wise, they became fools22Professing to be wise, they became fools,
and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.23and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
Therefore God delivered them over in the desires of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves.24Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served what has been created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen.25For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God delivered them over to disgraceful passions. Their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.26For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,
The men in the same way also left natural relations with women and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty of their error.27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a corrupt mind so that they do what is not right.28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness. They are full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, and malice. They are gossips,29being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,
slanderers, God-haters, arrogant, proud, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
senseless, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful.31without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;
Although they know God's just sentence--that those who practice such things deserve to die--they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them.32and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
