| 1“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom. | 1"At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. |
| 2Five of them were foolish and five were wise. | 2Five of the virgins were foolish, and five were wise. |
| 3When the foolish took their lamps, they didn’t take oil with them; | 3When the foolish ones took their lamps, they did not take extra olive oil with them. |
| 4but the wise ones took oil in their flasks with their lamps. | 4But the wise ones took flasks of olive oil with their lamps. |
| 5When the groom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. | 5When the bridegroom was delayed a long time, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. |
| 6“In the middle of the night there was a shout: ‘Here’s the groom! Come out to meet him.’ | 6But at midnight there was a shout, 'Look, the bridegroom is here! Come out to meet him.' |

| 14“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey. He called his own servants and entrusted his possessions to them. | 14"For it is like a man going on a journey, who summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them. |

| 20The man who had received five talents approached, presented five more talents, and said, ‘Master, you gave me five talents. | 21“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy.’ | 21His master answered, 'Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful in a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.' |
| 22“The man with two talents also approached. He said, ‘Master, you gave me two talents. See, I’ve earned two more talents.’ | 22The one with the two talents also came and said, 'Sir, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more.' |
| 23“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy.’ | 23His master answered, 'Well done, good and faithful slave! You have been faithful with a few things. I will put you in charge of many things. Enter into the joy of your master.' |
| 24“The man who had received one talent also approached and said, ‘Master, I know you. You’re a harsh man, reaping where you haven’t sown and gathering where you haven’t scattered seed. | 24Then the one who had received the one talent came and said, 'Sir, I knew that you were a hard man, harvesting where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed, |
| 25So I was afraid and went off and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’ | 25so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.' |
| 26“His master replied to him, ‘You evil, lazy servant! If you knew that I reap where I haven’t sown and gather where I haven’t scattered, | 26But his master answered, 'Evil and lazy slave! So you knew that I harvest where I didn't sow and gather where I didn't scatter? |
| 27then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and I would have received my money back with interest when I returned. | 27Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received my money back with interest! |
| 28“ ‘So take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents. | 28Therefore take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten. |
| 29For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. | 29For the one who has will be given more, and he will have more than enough. | 30And throw this good-for-nothing servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ | 30And throw that worthless slave into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' |
| 31“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. | 31"When the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. |

| 45“Then he will answer them, ‘I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ | 45Then he will answer them, 'I tell you the truth, just as you did not do it for one of the least of these, you did not do it for me.' |
