| 1Listen, LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. | 1Bend down, O LORD, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help. |
| 2Protect my life, for I am faithful. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you. | 2Protect me, for I am devoted to you. Save me, for I serve you and trust you. You are my God. |
| 3Be gracious to me, Lord, for I call to you all day long. | 3Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am calling on you constantly. |
| 4Bring joy to your servant's life, because I appeal to you, Lord. | 4Give me happiness, O Lord, for I give myself to you. |

| 14God, arrogant people have attacked me; a gang of ruthless men intends to kill me. They do not let you guide them. | 14O God, insolent people rise up against me; a violent gang is trying to kill me. You mean nothing to them. |
| 15But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth. | 15But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. |
| 16Turn to me and be gracious to me. Give your strength to your servant; save the son of your female servant. | 16Look down and have mercy on me. Give your strength to your servant; save me, the son of your servant. |
| 17Show me a sign of your goodness; my enemies will see and be put to shame because you, LORD, have helped and comforted me. | 17Send me a sign of your favor. Then those who hate me will be put to shame, for you, O LORD, help and comfort me. |
