Deuteronomy 10
ESV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionInternational Standard Version
“At that time the LORD said to me, ‘Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to me on the mountain and make an ark of wood.1"At that time, the LORD told me, 'Chisel two tablets of stone for yourself just like the first ones, and then come up to me on the mountain. Also make for yourself a wooden chest.
And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets that you broke, and you shall put them in the ark.’2I'll write on the tablets what was on the first tablets that you broke. Then place them in the wooden chest.'
So I made an ark of acacia wood, and cut two tablets of stone like the first, and went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hand.3So I made a chest out of acacia wood and chiseled two tablets of stones just like the first ones. Then I went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hands.
And he wrote on the tablets, in the same writing as before, the Ten Commandments that the LORD had spoken to you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me.4Then the LORD inscribed on the tablets what he wrote before, that is, the Ten Commandments that the LORD declared to you on the mountain from the middle of the fire during the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me.
Then I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark that I had made. And there they are, as the LORD commanded me.”5Then I turned, went down the mountain, and placed the tablets in the chest that I had made. They are there now, just as the LORD commanded me."
(The people of Israel journeyed from Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried. And his son Eleazar ministered as priest in his place.6"The Israelis traveled from the wells of the descendants of Jaakan to Moserah. Aaron died, and he was buried there. His son Eleazar succeeded him as priest.
From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with brooks of water.7From there they moved on to Gudgodah and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with flowing streams.
At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD to stand before the LORD to minister to him and to bless in his name, to this day.8At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD, to stand in the LORD's presence, to serve, and to bless his name until this day.
Therefore Levi has no portion or inheritance with his brothers. The LORD is his inheritance, as the LORD your God said to him.)9That is why the descendants of Levi do not have a portion and an inheritance among their relatives. As for the LORD, he is their inheritance, just as the LORD your God told them.
“I myself stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights, and the LORD listened to me that time also. The LORD was unwilling to destroy you.10When I stood on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights as I did the first time, the LORD listened to me once again. The LORD was not willing to destroy you.
And the LORD said to me, ‘Arise, go on your journey at the head of the people, so that they may go in and possess the land, which I swore to their fathers to give them.’11So the LORD told me, 'Get up and proceed to lead the people, so they may enter and take possession of the land that I promised to give their ancestors by an oath.'"
“And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,12"Now Israel, what does the LORD your God desire from you? Only this: fear him, walk in all his ways, love him, serve him with all your heart and in all your life,
and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I am commanding you today for your good?13and observe his commands and statutes that I'm commanding you today for your own good.
Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it.14You see, heaven—even the highest heavens—belongs to the LORD, along with the earth and all that is in it,
Yet the LORD set his heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day.15yet the LORD committed himself to love your ancestors—and did so! He chose you—their descendants after them—from all the nations, as it is today.
Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn.16Therefore, circumcise your heart and stop being stubborn.
For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.17For the LORD your God is the God of all gods, the LORD of all lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who does not show favoritism or take bribes.
He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing.18He executes justice for the orphan and the widows, loves the foreigner, and gives them food and clothing."
Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.19"You are to love the foreigner, because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.
You shall fear the LORD your God. You shall serve him and hold fast to him, and by his name you shall swear.20You are to fear the LORD your God and serve him. Cling to him and swear by his name.
He is your praise. He is your God, who has done for you these great and terrifying things that your eyes have seen.21He is the one you are to praise, because he is, your God who carried out those great and awesome things for you that you witnessed.
Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.22Your ancestors went down to Egypt with 70 people, but the LORD your God has now made you as numerous as the stars in the sky."
