Psalm 37
ISV Parallel HCSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionHolman Christian Standard Bible
Don't be angry because of those who do evil, do not be jealous because of those who commit iniquity.1Davidic. Do not be agitated by evildoers; do not envy those who do wrong.
Indeed, they soon will wither like grass, and like green herbs they will fade away.2For they wither quickly like grass and wilt like tender green plants.
Trust in the LORD and do good. Dwell in the land and feed on faithfulness.3Trust in the LORD and do what is good; dwell in the land and live securely.
Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.4Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you your heart's desires.
Commit your way to the LORD; Trust him, and he will act.5Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will act,
He will bring forth your righteousness as a light, and your justice as the noonday sun. 6making your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noonday.
Be silent in the LORD's presence and wait patiently for him. Don't be angry because of the one whose way prospers or the one who implements evil schemes.7Be silent before the LORD and wait expectantly for Him; do not be agitated by one who prospers in his way, by the man who carries out evil plans.
Calm your anger and abandon wrath. Don't be angry— it only leads to evil.8Refrain from anger and give up your rage; do not be agitated--it can only bring harm.
Those who do evil will perish. But those who wait on the LORD will inherit the land.9For evildoers will be destroyed, but those who put their hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
Yet a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more. You will search for his place, but he will not be there.10A little while, and the wicked person will be no more; though you look for him, he will not be there.
The humble will inherit the land; they will take in abundant peace.11But the humble will inherit the land and will enjoy abundant prosperity.
The wicked person plots against the righteous, and grinds his teeth at him.12The wicked person schemes against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him.
But the Lord laughs at him because he sees that his day is coming!13The Lord laughs at him because He sees that his day is coming.
The wicked take out a sword and bend the bow, to bring down the humble and the poor to slay those who are righteous in conduct.14The wicked have drawn the sword and strung the bow to bring down the afflicted and needy and to slaughter those whose way is upright.
But their sword will pierce their own heart, and their bows will be broken!15Their swords will enter their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
Better is the little that the righteous have than the abundance of many wicked people.16The little that the righteous man has is better than the abundance of many wicked people.
For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous.17For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD supports the righteous.
The LORD knows the day of the blameless, and their inheritance will last forever.18The LORD watches over the blameless all their days, and their inheritance will last forever.
They will not experience shame in times of trouble; in times of famine they will have plenty.19They will not be disgraced in times of adversity; they will be satisfied in days of hunger.
Indeed, the wicked will perish. The LORD's enemies will be consumed like flowers in the fields. They will vanish like smoke.20But the wicked will perish; the LORD's enemies, like the glory of the pastures, will fade away-- they will fade away like smoke.
The wicked borrow but never pay back; but the righteous are generous and give.21The wicked man borrows and does not repay, but the righteous one is gracious and giving.
For those blessed by God will inherit the land, but those cursed by him will be cut off.22Those who are blessed by Him will inherit the land, but those cursed by Him will be destroyed.
A man's steps are established by the LORD, and the LORD delights in his way.23A man's steps are established by the LORD, and He takes pleasure in his way.
Though he stumbles, he will not fall down flat, for the LORD will hold up his hand.24Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the LORD holds his hand.
I once was young and now I am old, but I have not seen a righteous person forsaken or his descendants begging for bread.25I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned or his children begging for bread.
Every day he is generous, lending freely, and his descendants are blessed.26He is always generous, always lending, and his children are a blessing.
Depart from evil, and do good, and you will live in the land forever.27Turn away from evil and do what is good, and dwell there forever.
Indeed, the LORD loves justice, and he will not abandon his godly ones. They are kept safe forever, but the lawless will be chased away, and the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.28For the LORD loves justice and will not abandon His faithful ones. They are kept safe forever, but the children of the wicked will be destroyed.
The righteous will inherit the land, and they will dwell in it forever.29The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it permanently.
The mouth of the righteous one produces wisdom; his tongue speaks justice.30The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom; his tongue speaks what is just.
The instruction of his God is in his heart; his steps will not slip.31The instruction of his God is in his heart; his steps do not falter.
The wicked stalks the righteous person, seeking to kill him,32The wicked one lies in wait for the righteous and seeks to kill him;
but the LORD will not let him fall into his hands. He will not be condemned when he is put on trial.33the LORD will not leave him in the power of the wicked one or allow him to be condemned when he is judged.
Wait on the LORD, Keep faithful to his way, and he will exalt you to possess the land. You will see the wicked cut off.34Wait for the LORD and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land. You will watch when the wicked are destroyed.
I once observed a wicked and oppressive person, flourishing like a green tree in native soil.35I have seen a wicked, violent man well-rooted like a flourishing native tree.
But then he passed away; in fact, he simply was not there. When I looked for him, he could not be found.36Then I passed by and noticed he was gone; I searched for him, but he could not be found.
Observe the blameless! Take note of the upright! Indeed, the future of that man is peace.37Watch the blameless and observe the upright, for the man of peace will have a future.
Sinners will be destroyed together; the future of the wicked will be cut off.38But transgressors will all be eliminated; the future of the wicked will be destroyed.
But deliverance for the righteous one comes from the LORD; he is their strength in times of distress.39The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD, their refuge in a time of distress.
The LORD helps and delivers them; he will deliver them from the wicked, and he will save them because they have sought refuge in him.40The LORD helps and delivers them; He will deliver them from the wicked and will save them because they take refuge in Him.
