"At that time, the LORD told me, 'Chisel two tablets of stone for yourself just like the first ones, and then come up to me on the mountain. Also make for yourself a wooden chest. 1At that time the LORD said unto me, Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me into the mount, and make thee an ark of wood.
I'll write on the tablets what was on the first tablets that you broke. Then place them in the wooden chest.' 2And I will write on the tables the words that were in the first tables which thou brakest, and thou shalt put them in the ark.
So I made a chest out of acacia wood and chiseled two tablets of stones just like the first ones. Then I went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hands. 3And I made an ark of shittim wood, and hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and went up into the mount, having the two tables in mine hand.
Then the LORD inscribed on the tablets what he wrote before, that is, the Ten Commandments that the LORD declared to you on the mountain from the middle of the fire during the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me. 4And he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the LORD spake unto you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the LORD gave them unto me.
Then I turned, went down the mountain, and placed the tablets in the chest that I had made. They are there now, just as the LORD commanded me."5And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me.
"The Israelis traveled from the wells of the descendants of Jaakan to Moserah. Aaron died, and he was buried there. His son Eleazar succeeded him as priest. 6And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of the children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his stead.
From there they moved on to Gudgodah and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with flowing streams. 7From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbath, a land of rivers of waters.
At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD, to stand in the LORD's presence, to serve, and to bless his name until this day. 8At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.
That is why the descendants of Levi do not have a portion and an inheritance among their relatives. As for the LORD, he is their inheritance, just as the LORD your God told them. 9Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him.
When I stood on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights as I did the first time, the LORD listened to me once again. The LORD was not willing to destroy you. 10And I stayed in the mount, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights; and the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also, and the LORD would not destroy thee.
So the LORD told me, 'Get up and proceed to lead the people, so they may enter and take possession of the land that I promised to give their ancestors by an oath.'"11And the LORD said unto me, Arise, take thy journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give unto them.
"Now Israel, what does the LORD your God desire from you? Only this: fear him, walk in all his ways, love him, serve him with all your heart and in all your life,12And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
and observe his commands and statutes that I'm commanding you today for your own good. 13To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
You see, heaven—even the highest heavens—belongs to the LORD, along with the earth and all that is in it, 14Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens is the LORD'S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.
yet the LORD committed himself to love your ancestors—and did so! He chose you—their descendants after them—from all the nations, as it is today. 15Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.
Therefore, circumcise your heart and stop being stubborn. 16Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.
For the LORD your God is the God of all gods, the LORD of all lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who does not show favoritism or take bribes. 17For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:
He executes justice for the orphan and the widows, loves the foreigner, and gives them food and clothing."18He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.
"You are to love the foreigner, because you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. 19Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
You are to fear the LORD your God and serve him. Cling to him and swear by his name. 20Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.
He is the one you are to praise, because he is, your God who carried out those great and awesome things for you that you witnessed. 21He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.
Your ancestors went down to Egypt with 70 people, but the LORD your God has now made you as numerous as the stars in the sky."22Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.
