I exalt you, LORD, for you have lifted me up, and my enemies could not gloat over me.1A psalm--a song used at the dedication of the temple; by David. I will praise you, O LORD, for you lifted me up, and did not allow my enemies to gloat over me.
LORD, my God! I cried out to you for help and you healed me.2O LORD my God, I cried out to you and you healed me.
LORD, you brought me from death; you kept me alive so that I did not descend into the Pit. 3O LORD, you pulled me up from Sheol; you rescued me from among those descending into the grave.
You, his godly ones, sing to the LORD, give thanks at the mention of his holiness.4Sing to the LORD, you faithful followers of his; give thanks to his holy name.
For his wrath is only momentary; yet his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may lodge for the night, but shouts of joy will come in the morning.5For his anger lasts only a brief moment, and his good favor restores one's life. One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning.
As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I will never be moved."6In my self-confidence I said, "I will never be upended."
By your favor, LORD, you established me as a strong mountain; Then you hid your face, and I was dismayed.7O LORD, in your good favor you made me secure. Then you rejected me and I was terrified.
I cried out to you, LORD, and I make supplication to the Lord:8To you, O LORD, I cried out; I begged the Lord for mercy:
"What profit is there in my death if I go down to the Pit? Can dust worship you? Can it proclaim your faithfulness?"9"What profit is there in taking my life, in my descending into the Pit? Can the dust of the grave praise you? Can it declare your loyalty?
Hear me, LORD, and have mercy on me! LORD, help me!10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me! O LORD, deliver me!"
You have turned my mourning into dancing; you took off my sackcloth and clothed me with a garment of joy,11Then you turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and covered me with joy.
so that I may sing praise to you and not remain silent. LORD, my God, I will give you thanks forever!12So now my heart will sing to you and not be silent; O LORD my God, I will always give thanks to you.
