And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,1The LORD spoke to Moses:
On the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.2"You are to set up the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, on the first day of the first month.
And thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and cover the ark with the vail.3Put the ark of the testimony there and screen off the ark with the curtain.
And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light the lamps thereof.4Then bring in the table and lay out its arrangement; also bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps.
And thou shalt set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle.5Place the gold altar for incense in front of the ark of the testimony. Put up the screen for the entrance to the tabernacle.
And thou shalt set the altar of the burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.6Position the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting.
And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and shalt put water therein.7Place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
And thou shalt set up the court round about, and hang up the hanging at the court gate.8Assemble the surrounding courtyard and hang the screen for the gate of the courtyard.
And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.9"Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it along with all its furnishings so that it will be holy.
And thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt offering, and all his vessels, and sanctify the altar: and it shall be an altar most holy.10Anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar so that it will be especially holy.
And thou shalt anoint the laver and his foot, and sanctify it.11Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate it.
And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.12"Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting and wash them with water.
And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.13Clothe Aaron with the holy garments, anoint him, and consecrate him, so that he can serve me as a priest.
And thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats:14Have his sons come forward and clothe them in tunics.
And thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office: for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.15Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so that they may also serve me as priests. Their anointing will serve to inaugurate a permanent priesthood for them throughout their generations."
Thus did Moses: according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he.16Moses did everything just as the LORD had commanded him.
And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.17The tabernacle was set up in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month.
And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and fastened his sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up his pillars.18Moses set up the tabernacle: He laid its bases, positioned its supports, inserted its crossbars, and set up its pillars.
And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the LORD commanded Moses.19Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent on top of it, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy seat above upon the ark:20Moses took the testimony and placed it in the ark, and attached the poles to the ark. He set the mercy seat on top of the ark.
And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the vail of the covering, and covered the ark of the testimony; as the LORD commanded Moses.21He brought the ark into the tabernacle, put up the curtain for the screen, and screened off the ark of the testimony, just as the LORD had commanded him.
And he put the table in the tent of the congregation, upon the side of the tabernacle northward, without the vail.22Moses placed the table in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the curtain.
And he set the bread in order upon it before the LORD; as the LORD had commanded Moses.23He arranged the bread on it before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
And he put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward.24He put the lampstand in the tent of meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle
And he lighted the lamps before the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.25and set up the lamps before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.
And he put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation before the vail:26Moses installed the gold altar in the tent of meeting, in front of the curtain,
And he burnt sweet incense thereon; as the LORD commanded Moses.27and burned fragrant incense on it, just as the LORD had commanded him.
And he set up the hanging at the door of the tabernacle.28He put up the screen at the entrance to the tabernacle.
And he put the altar of burnt offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the meat offering; as the LORD commanded Moses.29He placed the altar of burnt offering at the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, and offered the burnt offering and the grain offering on it, just as the LORD had commanded him.
And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withal.30He set the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing.
And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat:31Moses, Aaron, and his sons washed their hands and feet from it.
When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Moses.32They washed whenever they came to the tent of meeting and approached the altar, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work.33Next Moses set up the surrounding courtyard for the tabernacle and the altar and hung a screen for the gate of the courtyard. So Moses finished the work.
Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.34The cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.35Moses was unable to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud rested on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys:36The Israelites set out whenever the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle throughout all the stages of their journey.
But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up.37If the cloud was not taken up, they did not set out until the day it was taken up.
For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.38For the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and there was a fire inside the cloud by night, visible to the entire house of Israel throughout all the stages of their journey.
