Corinthians 5
KJV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
King James BibleEnglish Standard Version
It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.1It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his father’s wife.
And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.2And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you.
For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,3For though absent in body, I am present in spirit; and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did such a thing.
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,4When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus,
To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.5you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.
Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?6Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?
Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:7Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.8Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:9I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people—
Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.10not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.11But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?12For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?
But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.13God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”
