King James BibleNew International Version
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,1The LORD said to Moses,
Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one that hath an issue, and whosoever is defiled by the dead:2"Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone who has a defiling skin disease or a discharge of any kind, or who is ceremonially unclean because of a dead body.
Both male and female shall ye put out, without the camp shall ye put them; that they defile not their camps, in the midst whereof I dwell.3Send away male and female alike; send them outside the camp so they will not defile their camp, where I dwell among them."
And the children of Israel did so, and put them out without the camp: as the LORD spake unto Moses, so did the children of Israel.4The Israelites did so; they sent them outside the camp. They did just as the LORD had instructed Moses.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,5The LORD said to Moses,
Speak unto the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to do a trespass against the LORD, and that person be guilty;6"Say to the Israelites: 'Any man or woman who wrongs another in any way and so is unfaithful to the LORD is guilty
Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed.7and must confess the sin they have committed. They must make full restitution for the wrong they have done, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the person they have wronged.
But if the man have no kinsman to recompense the trespass unto, let the trespass be recompensed unto the LORD, even to the priest; beside the ram of the atonement, whereby an atonement shall be made for him.8But if that person has no close relative to whom restitution can be made for the wrong, the restitution belongs to the LORD and must be given to the priest, along with the ram with which atonement is made for the wrongdoer.
And every offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring unto the priest, shall be his.9All the sacred contributions the Israelites bring to a priest will belong to him.
And every man's hallowed things shall be his: whatsoever any man giveth the priest, it shall be his.10Sacred things belong to their owners, but what they give to the priest will belong to the priest.'"
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,11Then the LORD said to Moses,
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man's wife go aside, and commit a trespass against him,12"Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'If a man's wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him
And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and be kept close, and she be defiled, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken with the manner;13so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act),
And the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:14and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure--or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure--
Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.15then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.
And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD:16"'The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the LORD.
And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water:17Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water.
And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and uncover the woman's head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water that causeth the curse:18After the priest has had the woman stand before the LORD, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse.
And the priest shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou free from this bitter water that causeth the curse:19Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, "If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you.
But if thou hast gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband:20But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband"--
Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell;21here the priest is to put the woman under this curse--"may the LORD cause you to become a curse among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell.
And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.22May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries." "'Then the woman is to say, "Amen. So be it."
And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water:23"'The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water.
And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.24He shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering will enter her.
Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the altar:25The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the LORD and bring it to the altar.
And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water.26The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water.
And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people.27If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse.
And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed.28If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.
This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is defiled;29"'This, then, is the law of jealousy when a woman goes astray and makes herself impure while married to her husband,
Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.30or when feelings of jealousy come over a man because he suspects his wife. The priest is to have her stand before the LORD and is to apply this entire law to her.
Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and this woman shall bear her iniquity.31The husband will be innocent of any wrongdoing, but the woman will bear the consequences of her sin.'"
