King James BibleNew Living Translation
And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.1While Jesus was in the Temple, he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box.
And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.2Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins.
And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:3 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them.
For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.4 For they have given a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.” Jesus Speaks about the Future
And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,5Some of his disciples began talking about the majestic stonework of the Temple and the memorial decorations on the walls. But Jesus said,
As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.6 “The time is coming when all these things will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”
And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?7“Teacher,” they asked, “when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to take place?”
And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.8He replied, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and saying, ‘The time has come!’ But don’t believe them.
But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.9 And when you hear of wars and insurrections, don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place first, but the end won’t follow immediately.”
Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:10Then he added, “Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.11 There will be great earthquakes, and there will be famines and plagues in many lands, and there will be terrifying things and great miraculous signs from heaven.
But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.12 “But before all this occurs, there will be a time of great persecution. You will be dragged into synagogues and prisons, and you will stand trial before kings and governors because you are my followers.
And it shall turn to you for a testimony.13 But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.
Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:14 So don’t worry in advance about how to answer the charges against you,
For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.15 for I will give you the right words and such wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to reply or refute you!
And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.16 Even those closest to you—your parents, brothers, relatives, and friends—will betray you. They will even kill some of you.
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.17 And everyone will hate you because you are my followers.
But there shall not an hair of your head perish.18 But not a hair of your head will perish!
In your patience possess ye your souls.19 By standing firm, you will win your souls.
And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.20 “And when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you will know that the time of its destruction has arrived.
Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.21 Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. Those in Jerusalem must get out, and those out in the country should not return to the city.
For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.22 For those will be days of God’s vengeance, and the prophetic words of the Scriptures will be fulfilled.
But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.23 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. For there will be disaster in the land and great anger against this people.
And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.24 They will be killed by the sword or sent away as captives to all the nations of the world. And Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the period of the Gentiles comes to an end.
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;25 “And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides.
Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.26 People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.27 Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory.
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.28 So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!”
And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;29Then he gave them this illustration: “Notice the fig tree, or any other tree.
When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.30 When the leaves come out, you know without being told that summer is near.
So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.31 In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that the Kingdom of God is near.
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.32 I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things have taken place.
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.33 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.34 “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware,
For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.35 like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth.
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.36 Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”
And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.37Every day Jesus went to the Temple to teach, and each evening he returned to spend the night on the Mount of Olives.
And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.38The crowds gathered at the Temple early each morning to hear him.
